NY Thinking turbo

I was wondering if i could get some help. Im in looking for a turbocharger and I have been reading alot about them. The search feature in this site is fantastic, but I still have some questions.
  1. I am looking for a turbo kit that isn't to powerful. I hear 8psi is good ( not to bad for the engine) Is this correct?
  2. Also i have 58,000 miles on my RX8 (ROXANNE). if i get a turbo should i expect my engine to give out a lot earlier or if i drive normally will it maintain its integrity?
  3. Also is there any kit that people recommend
Please any comments or suggestions highly encouraged.

Listen to Charles and you wont go wrong . If I lived in US and wanted a professional install Charles would be the man I would get to do it ....

with regards to longevity - sure you will shorten the life of your motor but have oh so much fun doing it

With the "azlizard" install Easy painted the intake piping in blue, custom fabbed some really sweet intercooler bracketry, and did a surgical job on trimming the undertray to fit the IC piping.
Yeah - I saw those . I really think people would be so much better off getting someone such as yourself to do the install as opposed to taking it to some speed shop that does not really know their way around the 8 like you do .

It isn't a *****? Well, THAT'S quite a concept.

I actually tryed to convince everyone that controlled exps were needed for a solid conclusion. Who needs exps when you have unsubstanciated anecdotal evidence?

Ignition.

IIRC, Fluid Motorsports has some decent prices on GReddy Turbo Kits. Tell Brice I said "Hi".

If/when you are ready to upgrade from the turbo included in the GReddy Kit, you can look into the MazdaManiac Turbo Upgrade or the BNR Turbo Upgrade as both are nice systems.

Hey Charles I just got an engine rebuild and Im also thinking about turbo.. is there ANY WAY i could run cobbs with a blowoff valve??

Ok.
1. The AccessPort is not a piggy back ecu. It is a reflash device that allows you to change the calibration on the stock pcm to suit your needs for a turbo application.

2. What you may be referring to is people saying you must recirculate the BOV when using the AP.

3. I have the HKS SSQV BOV along with the AP and I do not recirculate. You may have some driveability issues and some backfiring on throttle lifts, but nothing terrible imo. I am fine the way it is and love the sound. (it's the ricer in me, lol. )

thats what i meant when i said blowoff valve. I thought It would run rich after every shift...maybe too much to where i could blow the motor.. I knew you could use a recirculatory valve.

you should have said that then, lol

yes it will run rich when you shift...but running rich does not blow your motor....running too lean does.

keep doing some research, you seem to have your facts mixed up a bit

ok this thread is turning into sumthin that it wasnt originally meant to be. But i have one more question.. Once I have a "turbo flash" from cobbs, can I also run a separate ecu, piggyback, etc to handle my blowoff valve duties!??

all of a sudden i went from wanting the Pettit Supercharger to getting turbocharged.... See I have the 6port 6speed auto. And I was having trouble finding a ecu, piggyback, or reflasher... i didnt think eManage would work for the 6port6speed auto.. or any other aftermarket tuner. The only one that I new for a fact that was compatible was Cobbs Accessport. Everytime I hear of it on a turbo setup, Its "custom piping" that I dont know how to build, the keep the MAF on there.. anyway thats all.. Ill go cry to my A/T buddies over in AT PERFORMANCE section on the forum

just recirculate it if you are worried about it

it's just the intake you need to worry about when using the AP
many people on here use the AEM intake and modify it to work
AT or not, it doesn't matter..it all works the same for a turbo kit or SC kit

It's just the standard greddy kit except I have a custom made CAI from mazsport that works with the ap

they are no longer around, so that's why I suggested the AEM

2. what exactly is a Cobb AP?

Also Charles, thanks for the contacts. I will try to reach them for there opinions.
