Are there differences in stock power in different prod. years?

I was talking to a buddy of mine and he said that the older production years came with less hp from the factory, and were less reliable then the newer ones. Is there any validity to this?
Thanks.

Tell your "Buddy" he knows not what he talks about. Where did he get his information from? Ask him to show you.

I like that idea. :P So other then the recalls and what not, there's no real difference between the years? Other then '09, of course.

Only 03 and some part of 04 was different because the engine was a 4 Port, the Automatic only came in 4 Speed and the Manual was in 5 Speed. The HP was pretty much the same but a 6 speed will accelerate faster.

If I was strictly numerical like some boneheads, then I'd have to say the numbers do not lie. Look them up on the internet. That is how the thinking goes.
-----------
Original rx8 had 250 horse but I don't remember if those got release to all the markets.

2005 like mine has 238 horse.

Newest rx8 has only 232 horse.

I can only guess why they kept detuning the power. Maybe it was for reliability, or gas savings, who knows.
----------

Of course, all these people keep doubting official rx8 figures, yet take figures for other cars immediately for undeniable truth. Especially when doing comparisons to make "rx8 loook bad".

The 2008 new facelift model has a new gear ratio, final drive is 4.777. Same horse but may run a bit faster at the beginning.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_RX-8

for 2004 rx8 , look at ur VIN number ....if it starts with a "J" it was imported directly from japan ...the Dealers told me that when i bought it....and it has 248 hp....

i think that is true for most 2004 rx8's right ? its true for my rx8 at least ..

Yes we do, we drive on the left here so we import most of our cars from Japan, Singapore and some from Europe, but you still have a few people who import their cars from Miami because of the shipping difference and cars in the US tend to be in a less mint condition and have higher mileage therefore cheaper, but theres only one US RX8 down here.

I bought my 04 RX8 with 15,500KM, I drove more miles in 2 months the the previous owner did in a year lol

Theres is no 250 HP RX8 the High Power model in Japan pulls ou 241 HP

Japan doesn't have VINs like the US they use the chassis number LASE3P******
Then you have a plate with the paint code and country code J1M for Japan
