20b swap into 04 RX8?
How much would this cost? Just a ballpark figure, could maybe do it myself, not sure on that though lol. Anyone ever done this here before??? There seems to be some 20b's on Ebay going for 4500$.. any comments on those?

Hmm, thinking the only way I'll keep my RX-8 is if I can get a 20b in it, otherwise I might be selling it to a friend and buying a 350z. :S Mods for the z are a little cheaper, lol.

Well, you can plan on changing out just about every part of the driveline. Engine mounts will be a bitch. Intake manifold, headers, tranny, diff, axles...everything.
Not to mention that the same problems with the 20B RX-7 conversion still apply to the RX-8. Those ebay engines will need a rebuild, plus clearencing. The stock sequential twin turbo system is just about the hardest thing to tune in gods green goodness so you'll have to grab a large single turbo. Bigger radiator, fuel pump, oil system, and I'm just getting started.
There are two 20B RX-8s on this forum to my knowledge. rgozna made one in PR, and it puts down 650+HP. Anjeljoelv made one too, but I don't know it's specs.
How much? Think in the direction of 30,000 all said and done. If you can fab and know how to rebuild a rotary, cut that in half.

you will need a Haltech E11 and a custom harness, hope you know how to tune and wire up standalones... plus do a throttle cable and return fuel system conversion...
and this is a retarded question. you act like there is nothing in between a stock Rx-8 and the most extreme of swaps, so you have to go for... a 350Z? A car that can hardly break 12's with boltons? They are not much more moddable than Rx-8's, they just happen to be faster than an Rx-8 stock-for-stock. putting a turbo on any engine with a V configuration is very expensive (compared to an Inline 4, 6, or 2 rotor) due to the plumbing complexities of two cylinder banks.
Just spray your '8 and be done with it.

hi guys!
im a proud rx8 italian owner... ;-)
damn! is really so difficult and expensive to put a 20b on our car??why i have to change all the driveline??? i believed that changing only the engine and gearbox would be enough...
what about 13b rew??
love that f#####g 20b N/A sound!!!

Ahh, didnt know that much work went into the 20b swaps. I kinda figured mounts, tranny, new axle, wiring, ducting, and I would be pretty much ready for some testing... Maybe thats a project I'll do once the cars payed off, I'll just buy a beater to drive around and have the garage setup for this!

Well honestly if you dont know how to do the swap yourself , just forget about it. Its going to cost way too much if you pay someone else to do it. And the comment about the 350z , i dont like 350z's but going low 12's with bolt ons is fast , compare that with the rx8's high 15 with low trap speed. The rx8 isnt a drag car and never will be. A 350z you can make it really fast if you go turbo , its got a good $/horsepower gains when going FI. I personally dont think having 600+ horsepower is necessary for a street car , but this guy seems like he wants something fast. If you want acceleration that will make your passenger **** his pants then get another car . I dont think you will need to replace the axles or tranny if you make the 20b N/A but if you go single turbo then thats a different story..

^ show me a naturally aspirated 350Z with only boltons running low 12's that isn't completely gutted. That's what Mk IV Supras run with simple boltons. Don't get me wrong, I like Z cars, but lets be real here. Even with drag radials you would need a 115mph trap speed at least. That's what an FD will do with full boltons and an ECU upgrade with reliability mods (which is still $Texas).
And A 20B SWAP IS INEXPENSIVE IN ANY VEHICLE, even in a 2nd gen Rx-7 where it is probably easiest because there is more room and more available parts. A mazda reman 20B is about $15k from what I've seen on JDM importer websites, or a core alone will cost you 4 or 5 thousand dollars. The eccentric shaft and center iron are very rare for a 20B. The wiring... do you realize how complicated that will be, just to mate the new engine harness with existing dash wiring? It's like a 1JZ/2JZ swap in a Mk III Supra but worse.
