but now, im thinking about forced induction.

dont know whether i should super or turbo charge the car....
i saw this $199 supercharger ad on the forum, anybody actually tried it??

It will shorten engine life! Enough said.

I like the Pettit Racing super charger. I would take it over a turbo if I had the money to choose one. Haven't seen the "$199 supercharger" though.

I hate to gamble on such things, specially with my cars. I agree with you if it's done properly, but your taking a risk with your engine.

I'm on enough medication right now to actually try it. Still not man enough to pay for though. I would have to be on some killer pain medicine.

Before going forced induction, you need a real water temp gauge at minimum; the stock water and oil gauges both lie.

A stand alone Wide-band is also a nice addition, but an OBD2 capable gauge is the best. The temp and air fuel ratio is available from OBD2, along with injector duty, ignition advance, knock sensor data etc. if your gauges can read the OBD2 data you have access to read almost all of the live engine stats.
A boost gauge, intake temp, inter-cooler water temp, oil temp, fuel pressure are among the other gauges I have also added at times.

If you want instant power, then go with the Supercharger. if you want to have to wait to hit a certain RPM before you take off like a rocket **** then go with a turbo. i would prefer a SC over a Turbo anyday But, then again its that my own opinion so just go with what YOU want. Do some more reasearch, go on youtube, look at some videos. Best of luck

HOLYDIVER, have you driven an RX8 with either a super or turbo? or are you spitting out the cars 101 answer?

turbos and supers act differently with rotarys. supers have trouble working over the entire RPM band like they do on pistons. likewise turbo sizing is difficult with such high flow. dont cookie cut your answer

Seriously no one caught this yet?

Um, if its 2 bills it's bullshit. Can't say I've seen the ad.

If I had the choice I'd go pettit all the way. But too expensive for any FI setup.

Blowers work the entire rpm range pretty good.
I make 9 PSI at 2500 rpm, 16 PSI at 9000 rpm, I am slightly exceeding the max rpm 16K for continuous use if I exceed 9000rpm, but racing spec for max blower rpm is 18K.

The Renesis can make very big numbers with proper porting and a very big turbo.

Check out http://www.diasio.com for what is possible. (962R Turbo - 435 HP @ 9PSI BOOST)

Instant boost does not quite equal instant power.
Boost from a SC rotary does make usable power and torque at a lower rpm than most turbo rotaries, I can pull fairly hard from 30-35Mph+ in 6th gear, (at some very low rpms).

I still need to drop a gear or two, to pull hard instantly, although I instantly hit 9 or 10 PSI at that rpm and speed when I drop my foot.
(miss the 6th to 4th gear shift once, instead I found 2nd; shredding the SC belt at 55 Mph)
A turbo doesn't have belts.

I can make a great case for either turbo or supercharger, but I think everyone here will agree that forced induction is great, gives the RX8 the power Mazda should have had, and can be safe for an engine.

Better stick it on the dyno . If what you are saying is correct ,your set-up should totally blitz the highest output we have ever seen from a Petit right across the range.

Not with my 9.0 to 1 compression ratio and daily driver tune....
Under 300 RWHP

Can you show this Monchie?

Poor tuning will shorten engine life -- prove that a correctly tuned properly functioning well maintained forced induction engine has a shortened life.

The same way a bad omp or clogged oil injectors will kill an NA engine ...
Will a properly functioning well maintained NA engine operate longer than a forced induction .... you don't know that ..
I will absolutely agree the a FI engine has a lot more things that could go wrong and lead to premature failure than a NA engine .... no question.
But all things being equal and both engines are operating correctly and all the supporting parts are working ... .... ..... ...

And if you do ... please post the details ... really. I truly interested because I feel most of this is just bad press or gut feeling.

C'mon now wcs!?
You should know better than to take ANY advice from monchie seriously! I prefer to read "I want more powa" and "what oil should I use" threads than listen to his jibber-jabber. Unfortunately, I lose interest quickly in those as well, because he'll eventually post nonsense in that thread, as well...

LOL
It was a weak moment.
I was in the process of doing my Time and Expenses and anything was a welcome distraction at that point in time.

rote8, 9psi at 2500 shows that you are useing an underspun blower to overcome extreme flow characteristics of the rotary at 7000-8000 rpm. this means at such a lower flow at 2500 the blower is well below its efficency range. its just not made to produce that boost over 9000 rpms of a powerband. unfortunetly to overcome this you would have to spin it faster = self destruction at RMP

its all give an take. if you like it thats fine, but he doesnt need to boast that it will have instant boost at all RPMs

the bottom line is that an SC engine and supporting systems operate at the stress load of a much higher power output than an equivalent turbo engine with the same actual power output, on a Renesis engine this is not a good thing unless you are willing to live with a lower power level than what a turbo engine can provide safely

Doesn't do anything. Don't bother.

Save up and get yourself a used, upgraded, Greddy kit or the new Esmeril kit. I'm saving up for the latter at the moment, not quite there as of yet though.

I say just get a turbo motor and swap it into yours and sell your motor so someone who needs one , that way you have money for repairs and upgrades. And you don't have to risk blowing a motor not intended for turbo and being with out your ride.
