It sounds like the popping sound is totally gone. Like when you rev it up real high and then let off the throttle suddenly. It also sounds like the lower frequency exhaust sounds are even more pronounced than on a regular Borla, although maybe this is differences from one camcorder to another. I was expecting more of a raspy/ricey sound but that was a nice deep rumble. Now all you need is a proper ECU tuning and a flywheel.

Awesome vids Dave, makes me wish I had the money for these mods.

One thing, on the first video (merging on freeway), were your windows up or down?

If they were down, its not that loud, IMO.

thanks for the vids, and thanks to Nemisis for hosting

The funny thing is that I wasnt even on the throttle that hard. This car really bolts hard now with my latest mods..

I actually do have the flywheel... SR Motorsports Flywheel, high flow cat and pulleys...

One other change that I like is the fact there was a little annoying performance lag shifting hard from 3rd to 4th at high rpm's that is gone now. It woud hesitate for a second and then pick up the acceleration again... Damn that was annoying.. Completely gone now...

To answer your question Cam, my windows were down. I was hoping it wasnt going to be that loud and it really isnt. Dynamat was next on my list of things to purchase to help with the sound, but it really is not needed...

I'll make one last vid accelerating hard from 2nd to 3rd into 4th.. now that will be cool

later all.

I sent them several emails asking them the same thing, and they never got back to me. Your best bet is to call them. Let us know what you hear.

Just a little update. I took my car into Mazda yesterday to clear the code. They did and within one day it's back.

I may just have to live with it now.

They indicated on the work order that it was not a misfire code so they just cleared it I think.

davfzr-

I have the same mods as you do. I got a CEL only after I had the light flywheel installed. When I spoke to Gregg at SR, he told me he had the same code, it took about 1 month to clear. My CEL took about 2 weeks to clear and has not come back. When did you light come on ?

Mine came on after the Power Pulley was installed and it doesnt look like it's going to go away anytime soon. Right after I pulled it off the lot and ran it hard to redline, it came on....

I have reset the PCM as well with the 20 brake pedal presses and I am not sure wha to do now... I hope it was installed correctly..

Hey guys.. how long do you think it would take to replace the pulleys on our car? I think I may have gotten screwed by my mechanic.... It took them almost all day....

Thumbs up Pulleys

My mechanic told me it shouldn't take more than a hour to hour and half to install the pulleys. I ordered mine this week and should have them on by Friday or Saturday. All of you who have put them on, have gotten good response from them, so I'm looking forward to putting them on.

My RX-8 is silver and has the following mods: K&N short ram intake, Magnecor Plug wires, SR High Flow Cat & Racing Beat Back Cat Exhaust, running on a original K flash. I've completely disconnected my battery 2-3 hours for each mod and so far have not had a CEL issue, rough idle problem and the car runs pretty fast.

I want to thank all of you for sharing your mods and issues, it helps for the rest of us to make a good desicison.

Really yeah? To be fair, I also installed front/rear sway bars/rear end link and a high flow cat, but I thought that those parts would be easier than the pulleys......

How long do you think it would take for that job?

It's hard to say anything about mechanics. They all work at different paces. I had Mazdaspeed springs, shocks, and sway bars installed by a non-Mazda rotary mechanic, and it took him 5 hours with me helping. At least I had the peace of mind that none of my bolts were cross threaded when everything was put together.

I got to watch the SR RX8 drive into Sevenstock this year, and they lit it up a bit going down Reynolds Ave. It had a distinct sound to it with all their mods installed. You could definitely hear it coming. :D

I'm curious about heat generation under the shifter tunnel. Have you noticed any higher degree of heat form the high flow CAT? Or maybe it does not get as hot since it flows better.

Do you have any photos or sound clips? Did you get both that hi flow cat and the exhaust at the same time, how loud is it?

Thumbs up One Hot Momma!!!!!!!

I just recently installed my SR UR Pullies, which completes all my RX-8 mods and WOW!!!!! After installing the pullies, I did the 20 pedal stomping 3x and disconnected my battery for 3 hours and no CEL problems. The car runs much leaner and considerably faster, 4.5k to 8.5k she pulls with authority :D .

Foxman, I installed my RB cat back exhaust first and then the SR Hi Flow Cat and I find the sound very acceptable, In fact it sounds just as awesome as my friends Viper. The car will be louder, but the sound is very powerful and gives the car respect, that it deserves. In the future, I'll do some photos and post them and will try to record the sound, but take my word, it sounds AWESOME!!!!!! and runs like a bat out of hell :D .

So, you are disconnecting the battery before you begin your mod? And you wait for three hours after you are done with the mod before reconnecting it?

And, is your version of the SR High Flow CAT the one with the resonator option?

Dang man.. I still have my CEL.. Mazda cleared it for me but it came back the same day...

Maybe I should try disconnecting the battery.. resetting the memory with the 20 depresses of the brake and doing that over and over...

I dont know at this point...

Davefrz:

Since, your 8 and mine are set up with similiar mods except flywheel, I'll give you a solution that hopefully will work for your 8. I will prempt that if you have a M flash or M flash update, then this solution might not work. My 8 has a K flash and KAM(Keep Alive Memory) that is more forgiving with mods. M flash is Mazda's Big Brother watching over your mods......actually M flash is designed to make a stock Mazda run better, if it was running too rich and run worse if your car was running leaner and hates mods and has no KAM, so that being said, let's rock-n-roll .

Take one afternoon and disconnect your battery, both positive and negative for 3 hours. Then reconnect the battery and go inside insert your key in the iginition and turn it to ON but DON'T start it. Pump the brake pedal 20x in 8 seconds and then turn the iginition off for 30 seconds and repeat two more times.

After you have finished the pedal pumping, start the car immedialely and take it out for a 25 -35 mile drive. If your CEL doesn't come back, your set for the get go .

I found out that when you replace the pulleys it is manditory to do the pedal pumping, Mazda sent in a corporate communications to the dealers on this issue back in November of 2003.

So, hope this helps, let me know if it works for your 8 and in the meantime zoom zoom and kick some butt :D !!!!!
