SprintBooster Now Available in N/A

Hey fellow ZoomZoom'rs

I believe I was the first one to get the SprintBooster for my MazdaSpeed 6 in North America. The invoice sez it also fits the RX-8's so I thought I'd share the info.

I posted my impressions over on another forum and another fellow posted his review as well - my review is linked in the first post of his review.

I know this'll probably cause some "discussion", but I have yet to hear of someone that HAS tried it and didn't like it - most of the naysayers are just talking smack WITHOUT even giving it a go.

Anyway, if the RX-8 is anything like my car, go for the softer "A" version of this. I found the normal version was jerky like you never drove stick before.

Here's the link (hope I'm allowed to do link to the other forums...) http://forum.mazda6club.com/index.php?showtopic=93156

uhh... is this the stupid mod that makes your throttle move a lot more when you push it down a little?

yep, it is:

I installed mine a few minutes ago and WOW what a difference. I barked the tires pulling out of my garage with hardly any throttle at all.
I'll need a lot of convincing to buy this. I like the linear throttle.

You do have to adjust at first, but like I said the "A" version is softer and likely the one to go with for you guys.

BTW, anyone in the Toronto area can go for a free tryout at the website I mentioned on my linked post. They're in south Mississauga ... got nothing to lose.

big discussion in the Far east forum on these . They all thought it was great and actually believed it was a performance enhancement but I don't think many of them really understood what it actually does .
big waste of money IMO

What does this mean? Basically, the Sprint Booster makes the accelerator pedal
about 30% more sensitive. A side effect, which can readily be seen in the graphs
in Figure 3 and Figure 4, is that the accelerator pedal becomes dead beyond about
two thirds travel with Sprint Booster.

It is important to note that any accelerator signal into the ECU using a Sprint
Booster can be duplicated exactly by a driver without a Sprint Booster, merely by
pressing the accelerator pedal a greater distance.

Notice, however, that on releasing the
accelerator, the reverse is true. Because the top 1/3 of the pedal is "dead", throttle
response is lengthened by about .1 second.

I did not disassemble the Sprint Booster in my possession, as it was on loan to me.
But it appears to be nothing more than an amplifier. My guess is that it is a pair of
op amps is employed to simply multiply the two accelerator sensor signals by 1.3.
My further guess is that the difference between the various models of Sprint
Booster is the amount of gain, which would be set by a few resistors in the circuit.
Even in low volume production, I estimate the cost of the electronics to be less
than $5, and total parts cost of the unit to be less than $25.

Same idea as one of these :

"Performance Chip"
"Magnet Fuel Enchancer"
etc ...

You know what's funny though is I'm the one that's !

It amazes me how people can have pre-conceived notions on something that they have not even tried themselves and can completely ignore others opinions and call BS all over it. Do u guys think I'm making these impressions up? Or the other guy that tried it?

Someone in town go try it like I said ... you've got nothing to lose.

yeah, but you realize you're just psyching yourself out, right? You feel like you get more power because a small amount of throttle is actually pushing the throttle more than usual. There's zero gain to be had from this. Unless of course, you are really slow at pushing the throttle down, then this might be able to help you.

What has this world come to when you need a $250 piece of "engineering" to assist you with pressing your accelerator? Smash the pedal and go stop being a lazy ***.

Words from the great TFATF franchise

"My name is twink"

Yah I don't know why I put that quote up but what moron would have the nick name twink?

You're paying someone 250 bux to mash the throttle for you ?

nothing to lose ? You are happy to use 250 bux to have someone step the throttle down for you ?

wow, you failed, my friend.

I am not, I repeat, I am NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT going to buy useless crap like that.

Is like you're trying to ask me to "try" one of those performance chips or gas saving pills or Fuel Straightener.

I think it will be easier for you to ask me to jump off from empire state building than wasting money and time like that.

Apart from the fact that you spend $250 so that you :

* launch into the car in front of you or worse still the pedestrian
*make the car hard to drive agressively on the track due to the lack of finese on the throttle
*make hill starts an exercise in burning out the clucth
*turn the car into a jumping jack in traffic

NO THANKS

If I want to go fast I just step on the throttle - thats why its called 'pedal to the metal' whereas you would be 'pedal to halfway down position'- just doesn't sound right

The real question is, who invented this thing, cause I need to shake his hand.
Seriously, will you guys shun me if I go ahead and invent something like this or the turbonator (both of which are 4% engineering and 96% marketing, I might add) and make sweet $$$ selling it to clueless mustang drivers? I really cant decide if this is crossing the line of taking-advantage-of-people, or if it's just being smart and making some good money with clever marketing...
