So why is everyone waiting for Cobb if Racing Beat and Promaz can reflash the ecu?

Well that sucks. I thought it was customary to post dyno results in whp, not bhp.

Racing Beat have an engine dyno .
Bit of a bugger that your 250hp ,oops no 232hp, renesis actually only puts out 215isn't it . This has also been verified by Hymee in Aus - he got very similar numbers.
Lines up with what everyone gets in whp when you think about it .

Yeah that's pretty weak of Mazda to overrate the engine, then back down, but not the full way. Makes you wonder what kind of voodoo they performed on their engine dyno to get 232 hp at 8500 rpm. Or if it's just BS.

Where's the accountability in horsepower ratings? Some manufacturers overrate (Mazda), some underrate (BMW). Consumer Reports should start testing their review cars on a chassis dyno. Maybe that will scare them straight. You really can't trust the manufacturers hp claims, you have to wait until the car gets dyno'ed to know for sure, anyway.

Assuming 16% drivetrain loss from 230 hp, that means 193 whp, which is fairly close to what some get. The drivetrain loss is a bit more than that though, so I have no issues at all with a 230 hp rating on the car.

How can you figure out the drivetrain loss without getting a dyno straight from the engine?

Ive deemed that I will achieve 1337 status once I hit 1000 posts...

Now on to topic.

What in gods name is taking everyone so long to release their access ports???? From what Ive heard the folks over at Petit have been running with one in one of their RX8s for over a month now with no issues. Why is this taking so long to make it to the public market?
Im about to go FI and would LOVE to save a good $700 or so using an AP rather than the INT-X, but I dont know if Im willing to wait untill "Next spring" and then "Next summer" and then "Next winter" and so on. Some sort of a realistic deadline needs to be set, the RX8 community has been chomping at the bit long enough.

the problem is entirely the hardware for the new Accessport 2.0 and changes needed for multi-manufacture compatibility (and unforseen hold-ups trying to source the parts they need). They have all the maps they need and the ability to flash the PCM on the bench for a long time now... just need to get the AP2.0 working.

the Evo AP2.0 should be rolling out very soon, after that will be the RX8

Sooooo, as usual, the RX8 is put on the back burner while more 'marketable and profitable' tuner-cars products are being thrown at them left and right.

Not that I dont understand the economics of it, and not that I wouldnt do the same thing if I owned the company... but that just sux for us

Damn the principles of supply and demand.

There could be bugs in software, they really gotta make sure it works 100% (or close to it) before release.

IF you've been in the coding field you will know what I mean.

Of course, supply and demand comes first. Evo has a bigger market than us. A business is all about profit, right ?

Assuming 16% loss from 215 hp, we would get 180.6 rwhp. Which is right on the nose of what people get (sometimes a little less). It seems likely that Mazda rated the engine at 232 hp because...well, because they could. The law allows a certain varation (I forget the exact #), and 232 is just close enough to make the cut.

not exactly, they simply started the Evo project before the RX8 project... the maps and things get developed from what i understand concurrently but they started the EVO first

Getting the AP2.0 completely tested and free of bugs for non Subaru behicles and CAN systems is the hold up - the testing procedure is on the way and they are using the EVO - once its fully done in theory it just needs a short beta testing program for the RX8

Damn Mazda marketing for not promoting the 8 and its virtues enough, damn the public for not appreciating the benefits, damn the stupid oil markets for gas prices going so high, etc.

Yeah, I agree it stinks. There is the benefit of having a car that you don't see every 3rd person driving, but the downside is that aftermarket support is going to be a lot less stuff and a longer time to market.

and yet people like speedsource consistently run on the engine dyno at 260 with a stock block, no ac and a motec. and pineapple has seen 258 with just the addition of a Unichip used as an interceptor instead of piggy back. im running between 20 and 30 hp better at the wheels with the standard RB flash.

btw the legal variation is 5%. so marketing at 232 means that when tested the engines cannot make less than 220.4 bhp. 220.4 * .85 = 187.34

It takes 15 seconds to flash a Audi/VW 1.8T to 50 more ponies with the APR software. Maybe just using a Cobb Tuner will suffice for me. I could save money that way if all I need is the flash service.

I agree man... by all means I could be driving a seriously fast 350Z had I bought it instead of the 8... but I see about 5 or 6 of them at EVERY meet I go to.

As for me? I have yet to see another RX-8 in Miami (in person at least) that is as unique as mine, and has as much work done to it. Owning an RX8 serperates you from the crowd quite a bit... owning a highly modified RX8 seperates you from the crowd COMPLETELY.

R0tor, I didnt realize that the Evo AP is basically the test mule for what will be our AP... this eases my pain a bit
