i went with the mazsport fan mod because it has been proven to work (there is a thread discussing this) and the price is the lowest. I'm not saying it is the end all of cooling but its a good price ratio.

btw haven't heard much about the water pump, love to hear some testimonials,.

The Pettit reflash makes the fans come on earlier and makes your S/C run on the stock computer. Yay.

Without a doubt the most effective and cost effective cooling mod you can buy.
BTW the entire install takes 15 minutes, a screwdriver, a pocket knife and a 10mm socket. Scott

Move to the artic circle

I've been happy with the Mazmart water pump, but really haven't put it to the test in hot weather or track conditions. But I'm pretty confident that Mr. Engman knows at least one or two things about cooling rotary engines.

You could always try this. It's $100. Fully programmable temp on and off fan control. Works with dual fans as well. This is what I intend to use on my RX-7.

Add a couple of washers to the hood is the least expensive.

Followed by a switch that replicates the effect of the Mazsport fan mod for about $5.
You left that one out of your poll and it is the most effective mechanical advantage (save the water pump, which I have yet to try).
You also left out a proper coolant-water ratio, which is the single most effective mod.

I'm going to throw the cat amongst the pigeons and say no cooling mods are necessary for 95% of the 8's out there (except perhaps those in desert climates) .
Do we actually know that a cooler running 8 (ie cooler than 98-101C stock fan switch temps) gives us any advantages ?
Save your money on cooling mods - do the hood vent thing , do the water wetter / 15% glycol thing and you should be good for most situations.
I was originally in the cooler is better camp because I noticed a dropoff in acceleration at higher temps but have since found that premix prevents that power dropoff so it does not concern me anymore.

^^ +1

If your car is detonating or losing power, over-cooling it is a good thing.
Otherwise, you will see your best economy (and smooth running) from a 220°F Renesis.

Agreed. A $5 switch at RadioShack accomplishes the same thing as the Mazsport fan mod, except you can turn on the fans whenever you want, and cost a hell of a lot less.

I also have a vented hood and noticed I run much cooler with it on. I know run around 195 degrees F coolant temp in 110 degree ambient with the A/C on.

'Single Best', and 'Single most effective' are two different things.

Hands down a new radiator is the single best.

So I would go in this order for FI:

1. Radiator
2. Water pump
3. Fan Mod

There really is no substitute for increased cooling surface and radiator efficiency.
