Short Shifter Noise: REAL Solution!

Thanks for that inisght mysql101. The nice thing about an SS is that you can truly enjoy your investment over and over again every time you drive your car. Considering that factor, its a hard investment to beat and is usually one of the first things I upgrade. You were lucky to find a used one...my guess is that those only pop-up when people are selling their 8... . Btw- My VooDoo original sized **** is lighter than the stocker. Not much, but definitely lighter.

correction--voodoo is not heavier---it just feels heavier to me because the **** is bigger in diameter and the weight feels more concentrated? With the oem shifter with the voodoo **** it seemed to "pop" into neutral easier. It was easier just to say the **** is heavier. I should have known better than to enter that on the forum.
I did have a little learning curve in coordinating my heel/toe and clutch action. Since the shifts are now faster without as much effort(short shifters actually cannot make the trans shift any faster)--i just needed a little time in learning how to play the music again.
I too can make some noise return as you state. But as you said also in usual driving it is now ok.
its a good mod that is easily installed.

I've had the amplified gearbox 'whirring noise' from day one with the AFE SS. But then I also installed a Voodoo Magnum ****. I just attributed the add'l sound level over stock to a magnification of the normal gearbox sound as a result of the metallic **** (tuning fork effect or whatever it's more properly called). The insulation removal (mine if yellow-brownish, not green btw) seemed counter-intuitive to me, so I didn't and won't remove it.
Also removing my VFAD and using a K&N flat air filter I've generally raised the ambient cabin noise level over stock, but it simply provides me feedback that everything is working as it should be.
Gears - gearing.
Air - airing.
Flux capacitor - fluxing.

Installed my short shifter this past weekend and have this noise problem. I only hear it for a split second when shifting from 1st to 2nd, sometimes from 2nd to 3rd. The noise sounds like when you downshift and release the clutch without giving it gas, like the rpms are climbing, but just slightly. I can also get a similar noise when I press the shifter to the sides of the H pattern.
I've only driven a hundred miles so will this sound go away? Anything I could have done wrong during the install?

I've not heard of this before. People hear noise in different places then others. Not to say it isn't there but I can't place the sound you discribe. Whatever it is I doubt it is hurting anything.
You might just try driving it for a few miles as the lube gets up there.
I assume that you got the hold down plate located on it's little pins and bolted down without any binding.
