I bought the barb to do this mod, but never put it in. After thinking about it, the air charge spends so little time in the throttle body that I drought that there is very little heat transfered to the air stream. I won't be doing this. It would most likely be worthless.

Also keep in mind doing this will prevent the throttle body from becoming a 200 degree heater under the hood. That too might be negilable, but if you work on your car, it's much nicer to be able to reach behind there without touching something hot.

the entire engine bay is going to be steaming hot regardless from the radiator and exhaust manifold, that little coolant line to the TB won't amount to a grain of salt in the big engine bay heat picture, did you ever stop to consider that it *might* even result in the TB interior being cooler with than without, it really amounts to how hot the engine bay environment gets, nobody that I know of can actually say they scientifically tested it out and proved anything to a reasonable doubt, all I've ever seen here is just unproven theory and wild talk

No, I didn't think that. The throttle body is cool to the touch without coolant running through it, and about 190 degrees with coolant. So there's no way what your saying would be true.

I have a temperature ray gun at the office. Maybe when I get back in town, I'll do check the temps, do the mod, and check the temps. Surface temps that is on the throttle body.

LOL

be sure to check it at the track too, but the issue is the ID temp

I must have one seriously messed up engine then, because everything gets boiling hot when I autox, cruising down to the quiky Mart might be a different story

Perhaps... I haven't tracked, but I can tell you that on a 95 degree day in sunny FL during a 50 min drive home with a lot of boosting, the throttle body is still not hot when I touch it.

have found the same - however after shutting engine off & letting it sit for 1/2 hr it gets really hot - just like everything else under there .

the TB while car is in motion has more and cooler air going through it than the engine bay. I did this mod a long time ago. Subjectivly I feel a sharper throttle response. I didnt really test it. Its lodgical and easy to do and if you dont like it--easy to replace.
My engine bay after tracking is not hot--really . Keep the air moving and it is ok, stop or slow down(AutoX--i guess mostly has slower speeds?) and it will soak.

One matter that hasn't yet been mentioned is possible icing of the TB on the backside of the butterfly, especially during hysteresis(would that be the proper term?). It is under conditions of negative pressure, or vacuum, that the TB would be most likely to ice up even in seemingly warm climates. I think to have this discussion and be concerned with temperature issues while ignoring the effects of pressure/vacuum is to also ignore the more important of the two elements that involve TB icing. Heating the TB is the only way to counteract these effects.
