RX-8 Gear Ratio!!!

RX-8 Gear Ratio!!!

I preformed a search but had know luck ,maybe some body can help me find out what the final drive ratio is on the RX-8. I know from my other experiences with Mustangs and F-body car's you can get alot greater buttom end response if you drop in a set of 4:10 gears. I beleive this would make up for the low torque rating and also making lauching the 8 alot easier at the track. I have seen reports of some mid 14 sec. runs on this forum, I beleive this was with the stock gears.I see no reason why a set of lower gears couldn't push the RX-8 into the low 14's, throw on exhaust, intake & a stage one then who knows the 13's can't be that far away.

you can get 13's with stage 1 alone

1st - 3.760 * 4.444 = 16.7094
2nd - 2.269 * 4.444 = 10.0834
3rd - 1.539 * 4.444 = 6.83932
4th - 1.187 * 4.444 = 5.27503
5th - 1.000 * 4.444 = 4.44400
6th - 0.843 * 4.444 = 3.74629


edit: sorry that is the japanese third gear. i cant find the US now but it is different.

Drop a Canz Stage 2 with header, catless midpipe and catback exhaust and it'll probaly get mid (or low) 13's

Put 16 inch wheels in the rear with slicks and you'll probably explode the tranny

4.444:1 My god thats a huge gear!!! Does any one make a larger gear set for an RX-8 maybe (4.755:1 +) this would greatly improve take off and 1/4 mile times. My goal is to get low 13's with out killing the tranny. so far my best is 14.6 @ 98.00mph only mods are K&N intake with RX-8 Store exhaust, thats not to bad I guss for a non turbo 1.3L. Any way thanks for the help.

stock RX-8 should hit 14.5-15.0... with exhaust n intake iw should drop to 14.0-14.4

US 3rd gear is 1.65:1.

I know this has been discussed before but I forgot, why is the 3rd gear different for US and Japan?

A pretty good start to getting your 13s would be a set of lightweight pulleys and a unorthodox racing lightened flywheel. Free up some HP and allow your already fast revving motor to rev even faster. Have done this mod to a few of my cars. makes a huge difference on some, less on others.
