anyone know if this kid has a resonated or non resonated midpipe?
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/6vqdlMUSxt8&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/6vqdlMUSxt8&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

sounds great to me, horrible driver though

plan on getting a midpipe, but keeping stock catback, dont know whether i should pay extra for a resonator?

Do you have to "break-in" new exhaust? if so how do you do it? by driving easy or varing the rpm?

it just breaks in over time, over the course of about 100 milkes, the sound will vary, and eventually even out to the same sound every time

what about a completely straight exhaust...like, if I took the stock muffler off and replaced it with a custom "Y" pipe...would that sound ok/would the car still run ok...besides the pop and crackle due to the loss of back pressure?

Umm, I can't think of any other way to say it, but it would sound completely gay on a street car IMHO.

Cheers,
Hymee.

The guy I bought my 8 from had a setup exactly like this. It had a super nice deep tone to it that I loved in the summer; however, during the cold months the sound would drone pretty bad. Plus the exhaust not would go from very deep and when you hit 6-7K rpms the sound would change to something similar to a street bike at WOT lol

i think it's more about if you're running a catless midpipe or not. i got more backfire when i went from my stock catback to a turboxs catback but i got even more when i replaced the catalytic converter with their racepipe. extremely loud and lots of back fire, even the occasional flames seen at night.

as too the back fire, all there is to that is, which ever way you can have the least back presser...think of it this way...less backpressure=more back fire

Question exaust "back pressure"

Can an exaust make my car lose hp ?
I installed the exotic speed titan R-II in 3" and without any silencer, straight to the exit
the sound is unbelivable !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
but my car do not have the same torque!! it seems it lose power since I replace my supersprint exaust by this one ?

is it possible ?
a new pcml recal can fix it or do I have to sell my exaust ?

thanks,

Can't really lose something that you never had. I don't think there's any exhaust that gives a noticeable difference in HP, unless you had a midpipe on your previous system and swapped the cat back in with your Exoticspeed.

Yes, you can lose hp and tq baised on how your system is designed. Some are designed for low to mid range power and some are designed for top end power. Your new exhaust may help your top end but it will sacrifce your bottom end. The stock system is pretty much maxed out as far as cat-backs go. Like Grog says, your mid-pipe will make the most difference on the RX8.

As far as cat backs go, Racing Beats is probably the best all around. Mine does not lose any hp in the power band but gives better top end power.

Also keeping in mind that you will only gain or lose 1-3whp with any reputable aftermarket exhaust out there..... Not anywhere near enough to make a difference in feel.... all a catback does is change the sound... to a very beautiful sound that is!

I would imagine this power loss is more of a mental thing I just dont thing exhaust on a NA 8 makes any difference at all.... or maybe plugs, wires or coils are going if it really is that noticeable

I tryied it only with my sport catalyzer (re-amemiya)
I'll try it with a simple tube (no catalyzer at all)

but my car have now a hard time between 7000 and 9000...
maybe the coils...

You're not going to be getting any significant horsepower gain from any aftermarket exhaust on the 8 without running them with a midpipe. Even then, it's almost completely dependent on the midpipe - not the exhaust.

Just go with whatever looks and sounds right for you.

Agreed with Grog, you will get the "most" gain from a midpipe on an RX8.

There are very few exhaust that will give hp gain and you call only tell when running next to a stock rx8 as you both run the 1/4 mile and you only win by a fender...lol

Another good test of the aftermarket cat back is to do a 70 to 120 run and see how far which car pulls ahead.
