I have the Rev8...and it felt slightly heavier than the OEM system...however...

It has a great mellow sound...even when catless...

It gets kinda of loud when you get on it...especially after 4k...

But its not ricey at all...its a nice grown up sound...

As long as your not putting the car under load, its nice and quiet...

You probably want to go with the Borla. I just got mine and when you're cruising on the highway or taking it easy on normal roads you won't notice it in the driver seat (tho people outside will probably still notice it a little). When you get on the gas tho the low, distinct noise gives you a nice, agressive sound.

I'll have some youtube vids up early next week. I have my stock ones up so you'll be able to compare and hear a stock vs. a stockw/Borla.

I don't think either the RB or Borla give you a 'ricey' sound. No one is going to mistake you for a civic with a can and a bullhorn strapped to the exhaust.

I went with the borla... Installed it on Wednesday and I am sooooo happy with it. I might have to get a midpipe though, it's quieter than I thought it would be. Other than that, absolutely no complaints, it looks amazing compared to stock. Wait, I do have a complaint, I can barely lift my left arm now because the install schooled my shoulder, haha.

borla with a catless midpipe will not sound good. It will drone like a ****, and even 2,000 rpm is loud.

The hks legamax is not as deep or as loud as the borla, but it can work with a NA car with catless midpipe just fine.

Hmm... so you're saying if I want louder but not need-to-wear-earplugs loud, I should get a different cat back and combine it with a mid pipe? Wish I had asked these questions before I took the jump.... Any other comments/suggestions?

the borla with the mazsport 2 resonated midpipe is very nice. with anything less it does as mysql says it drones..

Not sure you have to go with the 2 resonated midpipe. There are single resonated midpipes out there that cost less and don't take months to have shipped.

Besides what DOESN'T sound obnoxiously loud with a straight midpipe? Anyone planning on driving anything with a straight pipe better expect to be annoyed. But at least the Borla will give you a deep, annoying tone with a straight pipe.

most catless midpipe have a resonator. They will still drone with the borla. The mazsport midpipe uses something closer to a muffler than a resonator. Look up racing beats presilencer.

Who sells a good midpipe then? Are there any issues with the O2 sensor? I think I've read something about some systems that don't have issues...

been there done that..

i am running a big resonator and a very hi flow cat with the borla right now.. works great..

the little resonators on most mid pipes just look like they do something.. they just take the edge off the sound..

food for thought..

uhh. they all have issues. the cat calculates the efficiency of the cat using two sensors (one before and one after). If it senses the cat isn't working, it pulls up a CEL. Interestingly enough, I found (as well as a few others) that on our 2004 models, the malfunctioning cat CEL doesn't show up with a turbo installed, but it did before the turbo.

Without a cat, the car should put up a CEL. Getting an AccessPort can resolve that issue by masking out the CEL so it doesn't get thrown anymore.

So if I'm thinking of a turbo in a year or so, should I bother with a midpipe now or just wait until I get the ball rolling on the turbo? Hmmm... I really don't know what to do..

*Fighting urge to ask a question unrelated to this thread..*
Must find turbo thread..

Like the others have said any midpipe you get now - (except for the Mazsport double resonated) will annoy the hell out of you .

Later when you get a turbo - you can run a less muffled midpipe quite satisfactorily ....

Here's some Borla vs. Stock Youtube clips. Used a digital camera in video mode so it's no where near high quality sound but should give anyone thinking about a Borla exhaust a good idea on what they're getting. I think the first set in a parking garage is arguably the best. It's the same garage on both clips so the acoustics should allow for a good comparison.

Ahhh, with the parking garage videos, whenever you went towards the end of the garage where you turn, there was a bright light and I felt like I was gonna crash :O

I find this interesting too. The 2G Eclipses can run catless midpipes without throwing a CEL too.

Anyone have an opinion on which is the best single outlet exhaust? HKS? Racing Beat? Are there others?

I believe that HKS is the only single outlet exhaust available. Buddy Club or Blitz may also make one, but I am not sure. The Racing Beat single exhaust is a racing exhaust and it isn't street legal. You also won't see it since the outlet is under the bumper, so you will have both shrouds empty which would look pretty lame IMO.
