Anyone else get a cel with a supercat?

SlayerRX8 12-09-2006 06:02 PM

No CEL here.

takahashi j 12-09-2006 06:39 PM

Had mine on for 3 months and a few thousand miles....and no CELs

llzjayarzll 12-19-2006 04:38 PM

has anyone tried this combo (ie. RP Supercat and cat-back exhaust) with a aftermarket header?? Will this be WAY TOO LOUD? Or just a major lose of back-pressure and low rpm power?

Almost nobody here has an aftermarket header. Have not shown any substantial gains, and crazy expensive ($1000+). There was an outfit here that sold an inexpensive header but from what I remember design was average, and did not show any gains. A well known company is in the process of developing a header that has shown some gains, but it has not been introduced yet.

Your CEL probably cleared since you disconnected the battery. Prolly would have cleared with the RPCat on.

I installed mine yesterday, it only took 45mins. i still have stock exhuast but damn it sounds nice and u can feel it pull up high. my only prob is that at low rpm's and when its cooled it sounds alittle too much like rice

Rhythmic 01-18-2007 01:05 PM

The ricey rasp should go away for the most part once it's broken in. You may still have some rasp when its cold, but after a few miles and its warmed up it will go away.

thanks man, aslo dew u think the dealership will say ne thing when i take it in

O.K. I just read through this thread and am contemplating a high flow cat. I have the MS exhaust currently. So here goes the questions again...

1. How loud would the supercat be with the MS exhaust?
2. How much power would the cat add alone?
3. Should I be concerned about clearance issues if I had the MS suspension?
4. CEL concerns?

BoosTED 01-21-2007 07:21 AM

I would recommend a resonated high flow cat with the MS exhaust. Unless you like hearing the exhaust rip all the time. ;)

Shouldn't get a CEL till it clogs up.

Power: you will lose some torque in the low end of the RPM range but will gain in the higher (over 4k).

TeamRX8 01-21-2007 11:30 AM

you shouldn't lose any low end torque on a zero overlap Renesis engine regardless of how big/free-flowing the exhaust is i.e. Turbo XS exhaust, if you do it's because of some other dynamic issue

bigger is better on this engine, unfortunately it's also louder too

BoosTED 01-21-2007 03:36 PM

That is what I have seen first hand on my car and I have swapped back and forth a handful of times. :dunno:

olddragger 01-21-2007 04:47 PM

we need an expansion chamber:)!

Thanks for the info! I am still torn between doing it or not doing it. I may just wait for the Cobb tuner first, then do the Hi Flow last....

that is what i was thinking the other day. but i couldnt find information on calculating the dimensions of the chamber and how it would collect, if it would work at all.

TeamRX8 01-22-2007 02:26 PM

I think he's referring to my custom exhaust manifold, which is not really an expansion chamber, it's really more of an old-style megaphone header

olddragger 01-25-2007 07:44 PM

Bingo.
