RP supercat

Just a few questions before I decide to spend my money on it. I tried searching and probably searched for the wrong thing cause these are simple questions I'm sure have been asked but I didnt find the answer, so: on the RP site it says the supercat is for off-road use only which I assume to be becaue of noise? is there any other problems or reasons it should only be off-road? not too concerned because it says it is street legal though. My other question is: I saw in a thread about the supercat someone asking if there were fitting issues with the RB exhaust and never saw an answer to the question. is there anything to it? or should it fit fine? any responces are appreciated, Thanks :wavey:

supercat is fine for street. it even passes smog still. if you get a hanger put on the supercat then there will be no fitting issues. i have the supercat w/ hanger welded + the rb exhaust.

BoosTED 09-04-2006 02:15 PM

It will not have any issues with fitment on any exhaust that can be fitted to the stock cat.

r0tor 09-04-2006 02:16 PM

its off road only because its not CARB certified, but since you don't live in california it doesn't matter since it will pass a sniffer test and does not cause a CEL

Did they send it with hanger welded or did you have it added during install?

NgoRX8 09-04-2006 08:45 PM

i had one welded on during the install. as far as i know at the moment. RP isn't offering the hangers.

8 Maniac 09-04-2006 11:41 PM

Thanks for all the responses. Where exactly do you have a hanger welded on? I dont know how to weld or know where I'd have that done so I'd definitely need to figure out where I could have that done.

NgoRX8 09-04-2006 11:45 PM

what you can do is install it, and take your car to a muffler shop and tell them you want a hanger installed. they'll lift your car up and put the hanger in and weld it. way cheaper than having them install the whole thing too.

Thats what I did, they charged me $17 at Jensen Auto.

NgoRX8 09-05-2006 12:31 AM

yea... i didn't do that... lol i had them install it all for me and i felt ripped off. haha. damn deedubb said it wasnt guna cost all that much.

8 Maniac 09-05-2006 02:12 AM

is it just not secure enough without that hanger? what problems would/could I have without the hanger?

NgoRX8 09-05-2006 02:14 AM

actually. some haven't had any problems without a hanger, but i didn't want to take that chance. most problems people had were rattling because there was no hanger.

HCTR154 09-05-2006 02:43 AM

9,000 + miles without a hangar and no problems here. RP supercat is an outstanding product. If you have any questions, call them and speak to Chris. He's very knowledgeable and responsive to all questions.

I have that cat with the stock exahust, and I got that weird vibrating as I didn't have the extra hanger. You have to solutions, one, get a hanger installed in the factory location, or two, what I did, remove the two chasis braces along the exahust tunnel, which really don't do anything.

I'm waiting for the standalone hanger to come out from RP, and then I'll install it. If you want to check to see if this is your issue, remove the two braces from under the car and see if you still hear the noise.

I have a stock exhaust with RP super-cat and have no vibrations or cels...Granted I only put it on over labor day weekend. Lovin it so far!

Keef 09-09-2006 11:01 PM

do you guys really feel any difference in having a "super-cat"

I'm sure that questions been asked before, but to me it would make more sense just to remove the cat and have pipe only. I know it's illegal, but lots of people do illegal things...

swoope 09-09-2006 11:35 PM

yes,

i have something close.. but big change.... and as to no cat ... did it. not something i would deal with day to day..

I have no hanger installed and no rattle. It is not much louder than it was before, just a bit angrier. I have had a racing beat exhaust installed since it came out. All and all I am happy with the purchase.

I could see a nice blue glow coming from his exhaust when he shifted. :)

Laserkei 09-11-2006 03:10 PM

I'm thinking of getting it but... I am wondering if its legal to have it installed. I live in California so i'm kinda concerned.

r0tor 09-11-2006 05:48 PM

i have mine about a year now... no problems and still no hanger

Those braces are important for preventing chassis twist & flex, highly recommend that you reinstall them.

WreakLoosE 09-15-2006 01:19 PM

It is Illegal to remove a perfectly good operating cat in CA. A lot of Muffler shops will tell you this when you ask them to put on a high flow cat or do anything with the cat for that matter.. But they would still do the work for you maybe on a "side job" basis. When you get a smog test as long as it passes the snuffer you would be ok.. The normally do not look at the cat unless your car is all modified and it does not past the snuffer for other reasons.
