As far as I know it is just myself and one other that had theirs die at 10,000miles.

It is my understanding that aftermarket catbacks will not flow any better than the stock one. I think it is just a sound preference. My only thought is that if you retune the ecu (ie racing beat flash) you may see slightly better gains with an aftermarket catback. The rep at racing beat told me that they have seen an approx. 10-15hp increase with their flash when used with a highflow exhaust setup, compared with the stock exhaust.

I'm trying to make down to VIR soon. Hit me up if your planning a trip!

BTW, I've got about 200 mi. on my supercat, and I have no complaints whatsoever. Still no rasp, and no rattling, knock knock.

Paul_in_DC 10-28-2006 12:09 PM

Keep an eye on the Mazdadrivers.com site. This year they had an event at VIR in March. Next year's schedule isn't out yet, but maybe they'll do another one around the same time frame? For that matter, other clubs do HDPE events at VIR too, so keep an eye on the VIR site as well - http://www.virclub.com/vir/

ya... I recently... randomly? decided to run without a cat a feel how it reacts...

I ain't trying to jack this thread... but... Wow, it's made me discover new vibrations within the car I never knew I had! It's so loud I try to run at a 1/4th of throttle atleast! If else i'd be asking for attention...

So my questions comes down to with a high flow cat does the sound change at all?

*Thinking about high flow cat* - cause stock shucks my nuts

1andonly 10-29-2006 09:02 AM

can we get some sound clips!

Red_X8 10-29-2006 04:25 PM

The way the highflow cat sounds really depends on what kind of exhaust you have. I have an HKS exhaust and the thing sounds like a freaking race car, and it pops flames too. There is another local guy that has it with a Racing Beat and his car sounds alot quiter than mine, but one thing is for sure, it is still VERY loud. Especially when you first put it on, then it calms down within a month. That first month it sounds very raspy and annoying, but after that, it sounds real good. If I had the means to put a sound clip on here I would, but as of right now I got nothin.

Rhythmic 11-02-2006 10:13 AM

With the stock catback it is just a deeper tone and is not too loud at all. Does not drone either.

Rhythmic 11-02-2006 10:16 AM

I have started to notice a very small amount of rasp when cold near 4k-5.5k rpm, and I didn't notice it when new, but only now with about 600mi. on it??

brillo 11-02-2006 04:30 PM

mine has always had that rasp at that point in the powerband, I have ~1000 miles on mine

Where do you live? Maybe you can hear it in person! Lots of nice members around here love to have any excuse to make rotary music.

so you got worse mpg with the rp hf cat?

toxin440 11-14-2006 12:04 PM

Got my RP Supercat fixed back up (replaced) at Rrotary Performance in Garland TX (im local)

Chris took care of me and really cares about his customers. Good people. and the SuperCAT is a good product :)

rotary32 11-14-2006 12:49 PM

Got a CEL from the supercat???? well i got a CEL on the way to work so wen i got off work i went home, disconected the battery, and replaced it with the stock cat in my driveway.....no more CEL so the Super cat stays off!!!

Paul_in_DC 11-14-2006 01:17 PM

There's an enlightened approach... :icon_no2:

did you get those numberS? i thought the less restricted flow from the hfc = better mpg

SlayerRX8 11-30-2006 12:48 PM

probably just from stepping on the gas more than before

llzjayarzll 12-01-2006 12:50 AM

actually slayers right, it was just me stepping on the gas for the flames!

lol i still get the same numbers tho for a full tank then i did before the setup. imo you should get the cat, its sexy.
