The nut in the pic is, of course, to connect the sensor. Look under the car and you'll see the sensor connected to the stock cat.

I had the Super Cat.. Nice product but far too loud for me.

WreakLoosE 10-10-2006 12:32 PM

I do have the SP2 and the Supercat.. It Is LOUD DEN A MUH FUH...It is made very well and fits great.. Even without the hanger I have no issues at all with it hanging down. I have never seen any flames because I am the only one who drives my car. But I can tell by the sound sometimes I am spitting some out. The car feels great on the freeways and the sound becomes a bet more bearable on the free ways but in lower RPM range its loud. I know there are some people who have a resonator welded in to help with sound and this is supposed to help a lot. I may do this when I get some extra doe.

All exhaust will be Far louder with the RP Supercat over the stock cat. So having an HKS or SP2 or Racing Beat whatever IT will be far louder than with the stock cat set up..

Red_X8 10-10-2006 12:57 PM

At first the supercat is very raspy and cheap sounding but as you break it in it sounds much better. I have gotten 2 exhaust noise tickets since ive had it on and I live in the suburbs of Chicago, so it definetely draws more attention.

Where do I get this resonator?

I had the RP supercat until i took the car in for all the recall stuff. the cat was setting off some sensors at the dealership so they had to take it off and put a new stock cat on to keep my warranty.

I want to put it back on, but i took it to at muffler shop here and they said they could not put a used cat back on my car. i'm thinking about putting it back on myself, the only thing keeping me is my friends say that it doesn't sound as raspy now with the stock cat. anyone know why its making that raspy noise? i had it on for about 5000 miles, it should have broken in. right?

NgoRX8 10-11-2006 02:02 AM

the rp supercat is raspy.

BoosTED 10-11-2006 02:36 AM

Are test pipes with resonators as raspy as a supercat?

Yes it is. Are there any that arnt?

987HYS 10-11-2006 03:49 PM

how does the RP supercat sound with a cat back system? is it still raspy or does it sound a little bit different? i know it is a lot louder with the RP cat and a cat back system, but what kind of tone does the combination have??

WreakLoosE 10-11-2006 03:58 PM

IT is raspy at times. At low RPM's you get the Rice Raspies....

I know you think that the full exhaust is a little too loud, but over all do you like it, or do you think it's too loud and annoying?

rotary32 10-11-2006 08:05 PM

with the greddy sp2 it is loud and obnoxiuose. i dont like it at all so im looking to switch to HKS legamax. and ya right aroun 3500-4000 rpm it gets a little raspy but once you get past that it smooth.

i personally ordered mine and didnt recieve it for about 3 weeks after placing the order because rx7store.com mixed my order in with a group buy but wen i caled they caught it and took care of the shipping so it was worth the wait.

WreakLoosE 10-12-2006 03:38 PM

With the HKS Legamax it will be the same thing. My friend has that exhaust and cat set up and it is very similar to mine :( I do like the set up but it does get on my nerves sometimes. I Will buy a resonator to put in to help with the sound.

i have the supercat with borla and it was raspy because there was a gap between the exhaust and the cat. after i tightened the gasket, it only sounds raspy when the cat is cold. but once the cat heats up then the rasp goes away. (it only takes 2-3 minutes for it to warm up). and now im lovin the deep tone my exhaust gives out. by the way, its easier to do when you have another person help you.

BoosTED 10-12-2006 03:58 PM

Part of the raspy when cold is due to the airpump that runs till it warms up.

The resonator is what calms the noise down. The stock cat has a fairly large resonator after it. ;)

rotary32 10-12-2006 06:48 PM

ya i only notice the raspy noise wen the car is warming up. after its warmed up........no rice rasp.........just rice loud..... i know the hks will still be loud but it has a different tone ....not as ricy i think. gives more of a solid ...rotary noise. i dunno. im still debating. its a lot of dough$$$

I just installed the newest version of the Supercat yesterday, and have driven it for about 75mi. Honestly it is not nearly as loud as some reviews lead me to beleive, and sound clips do no justice.

Nice mellow deep tone that still preserves the rotary sound. MY SUPERCAT HAS NO RASP WITH STOCK CATBACK. Really screams at full throttle, but still tame around town.

It is coupled with the RB duct and K&N v2. I have noticed all around better accel. feel. Recommended.

Well, maybe when you have an aftermarket catback exhaust it would be alot louder.

llzjayarzll 10-25-2006 01:00 PM

i just installed my supercat as well. i have the sp2 installed as well. it sounds sexy is say from 1-4 rpm. from there its noticably loud but very tolerable as i dont reach there during regular cruising. this cat has no rasp from what i can tell. only from a cold start but your supposed to warm it up anyway =p.

no hangar either and no rattle so im happy with it. ima try to get in some fire shots as well to show you guys(thank you for the repeated camera shot taking option thing. =x

oh yea. and i can feel the difference in driving =p

mahuna 10-26-2006 01:41 AM

theres been alot of talk about these things going out at about 10,000 miles or so. has anyone here had theres on that long without any problems? it might be juat a few people with this problem but reading about the problems people were having with the supercat made me think twice about getting it myself.

I'm curious - I hear you get a few hp from the Supercat, but is there any performance reason to go aftermarket cat-back other than sound preference?

(BTW, I'm jealous that you live so close to VIR. I was there twice this year with Mazdadrivers.com)
