As far as I know it is just myself and one other that had theirs die at 10,000miles.

It is my understanding that aftermarket catbacks will not flow any better than the stock one. I think it is just a sound preference. My only thought is that if you retune the ecu (ie racing beat flash) you may see slightly better gains with an aftermarket catback. The rep at racing beat told me that they have seen an approx. 10-15hp increase with their flash when used with a highflow exhaust setup, compared with the stock exhaust.

I'm trying to make down to VIR soon. Hit me up if your planning a trip!

BTW, I've got about 200 mi. on my supercat, and I have no complaints whatsoever. Still no rasp, and no rattling, knock knock.

Keep an eye on the Mazdadrivers.com site. This year they had an event at VIR in March. Next year's schedule isn't out yet, but maybe they'll do another one around the same time frame? For that matter, other clubs do HDPE events at VIR too, so keep an eye on the VIR site as well - http://www.virclub.com/vir/

ya... I recently... randomly? decided to run without a cat a feel how it reacts...

I ain't trying to jack this thread... but... Wow, it's made me discover new vibrations within the car I never knew I had! It's so loud I try to run at a 1/4th of throttle atleast! If else i'd be asking for attention...

So my questions comes down to with a high flow cat does the sound change at all?

*Thinking about high flow cat* - cause stock shucks my nuts

The way the highflow cat sounds really depends on what kind of exhaust you have. I have an HKS exhaust and the thing sounds like a freaking race car, and it pops flames too. There is another local guy that has it with a Racing Beat and his car sounds alot quiter than mine, but one thing is for sure, it is still VERY loud. Especially when you first put it on, then it calms down within a month. That first month it sounds very raspy and annoying, but after that, it sounds real good. If I had the means to put a sound clip on here I would, but as of right now I got nothin.

With the stock catback it is just a deeper tone and is not too loud at all. Does not drone either.

I have started to notice a very small amount of rasp when cold near 4k-5.5k rpm, and I didn't notice it when new, but only now with about 600mi. on it??
