The CEL might not even be related to the midpipe. We need the code that was thrown. What other mods do you have?

 

Just had my RP cat installed at local shop. When i told them what i had they all looked like it won't fit or something will be wrong, aftermarket bs he said. The mechanic was suprised how well and easy it fit! Well i pulled it out of the shop and it seemed quiet. Took it for a test drive and noticed some rattling over bumps.

Back at the garage we noticed some clearance problems with the rear skid plate. He had to make a hanger. No more rattle. Sounds good, not to loud under 5k but on wot it will wake up. This cat with my RB exhaust seems to be a perfect setup!

I was told by RP that the support bracket would destroy the shipping box, so they left it off. It seems that they should re-analyze this tatic. I think it is a must to have it. Glad to hear you joined the club! Nice hat on your avatar by the way...

 

Yeah, but some more bubble wrap and a bigger box will work too. And cheaper!

I would give them a A+ for there work if it wasn't for this small detail.

100 miles and no CEL !

 

I am going to be picking one of these up hopefully by the end of the month. (Paycheck and tax returns!) I am going to be putting it on my stock exhaust for now, but I will in a couple of months get the Greddy SP2 exhaust on.

I've already talked to Nemesis8, but for those who have this pipe, if I am looking for a more throaty and loud exhaust setup, do you think this pipe is the way to go? Also on the plus side, increase of HP/torque and MPG. Do those who have this pipe notice the improvments or what?

 

i dont think it affects mpg...you will definitely notice a huge increase in available power above 5k...no more back pressure to stifle the flow!

 

If RP wanted to make a bracket, they could just push some styrofoam onto it and wedge it in the box. If it was a tight fit I don't think it would go through the cardboard. And the part ripped through the cardboard box on my midpipe anyway.

 

i'll keep my battery unplugged for awhile then... i have the b&b exhaust and thats the only other mod i have, haha besides the clear corners and ms poly urethane body kit but it'd be ridiculous if that triggered the cell lolz :D

 

I have the RP Supercat now under my car, but i have big problems with the emissions !!!
In Germany we have to pass a "AU Test" which is similar to your smog-test. Red line here is 0.30 in the CO value. My 8 was tested now with 1.3+ ! Any idea ? First test we made with 2.500-3.000 rpm, but because of the worse values and the face that they getting better with higher rpms we startet to heating the cat with 6.000rpms. When the rpms fall down we got a very nice backfire with a "plopp" and a short time later the AU Sensor was broken. HAHAHA, we grilled the ******* sensor in the exhaust !


Sound is great ! Slow driving, slightly louder than before, but opening the throttel for a while on the Autobahn makes the car VERY loud and agressive ! Backfire every time on shifting, i love it !

 

juss got mine yesterday...mine in the same position as you...jacked up the car did notice the borla and midpipe does not fit flush(is that what you talkin about?)....i do notice a weird noise which i hope it is a leak b/c it sounds like a ricer with the car making buzzzzzzzzttt sounds at certain areas. but when it doesnt make that sound it sounds good

 

I've got the borla with RP supercat.

First, you did take out the mesh cone off the stock pipe (see pic) and put it on the supercat. Without that, it'll definitely leak out.
I do remember it not being flush when connected to the borla, but I just tightened as far as I could and I have no leaks.
The sound has mellowed out alittle since I made my borla/rp supercat video (in the multimedia section.)

i dont have a gasket between the supercat and the borla, was i supposed to take that off my stock pipe? no it wouldnt fit isnt the stock catback pipe 2.5"? im talking about the i think its a flange that the midpipe connects to it moves and isnt attached to the borla so it goes midpipe., bolt, borla "washer" thing, springs, then the nut ill take a picture of it later but you guys need to know what im talking about i need to figure out the name of the peice.

 

yes, there is a cone shaped ring attached to the stock catalytic converter. On first inspection it looks like its part of the catalyic converter, but you need to take it off using a putty knife or carefully using a flat screwdriver.

THis is the same problem I had with my supercat and racing beat exhaust. Silacone gaskets dont really work with this connection. I tried high temp copper silacone sealant 3 times and it burnt/exploded through the connection within a week.

Also you reallly need to have a hanger welded on. Without the hanger, whatever gasket you use is going to get damaged.

 

^^^^ adrian's pics are correct. This is the metal fiber gasket you need for a correct seal.

Also, I got my hanger welded on for $20 at Mineke, took them less than 20 minutes.

 

Yup, check your stock midpipe and remove that piece. Also, I didn't use any silicone on the back connection.

Sorry for reviving this thread, but I just want to make sure I read things right.

The main things to remember when installing the RP Super Cat are to:
1. Remove the cone shaped ring from the stock catalytic converter and apply it to the new RP Cat.
2. Attach a new hanger to the RP Cat by taking the old one off and welding it back on to the new RP Cat.

Did I miss anything? In case I buy and install the RP Cat, are there any other little hints or suggestions I should know before installing?

Thats all I did - keep it simple

 

I just installed a Super Cat with my RB cat-back exhaust and everything fit perfectly. So much so that we opted out of the hanger switch. With about 200 miles since Friday I don’t have any problems with rattles or exhaust leaks / noises. I did get a CEL which I cleared with a battery disconnect.

I knew I would be glad one day that the RB exhaust is relatively quite, because it’s not anymore. Like others have said at idle or steady state cruising the sound is minimal. But when you open the throttle things start to get pretty loud. It’s right about, or just a bit over, my limit for how a car of this sophistication should sound. To combat this I plan on installing a centrifugal muffler next.

I am very impressed by the improved performance of this mod. Of course the cat-back really didn’t make any noticeable change, but this is really noticeable. At lower RPMs the throttle is much crisper, like someone removed a couple of hundred pounds off the car. Then it falls a little flat in the middle but pulls the last 2,000 RPMs really strong. It really makes the car more enjoyable to drive. I strongly recommend this to anyone looking for a livelier power-band. Having to do it again, I might do this before the cat-back.

 

Hey CY, give the supercat some time before you add another muffler. Mine actually got much quieter after a few weeks. When I first installed it a few months ago, it was really aggressive and raspy, which sounded great. Now its a little more tame, but when I open it up, it sounds wonderful.

 

That's cool, I think I hear that happening already.

I am still using the noise as an extra excuse to go turbo anyway!

 

Yamaha did the CEL ever come back on? most of the people with the RP supercat doesnt get CELs popping up right?
