Working in a tire shop, Ive seen a lot of damaged wheels. It seems to be most of the time the wheel turns out to be the weak link.

In my eyes I'm ok with that. Im guessing that 99% of the people that buy aftermarket wheels (myself included) are not racing them to the extremes where a super expensive wheel my seem fit.

However, say someone were to smack a granite curb real hard sideways. Id rather replace an inexpensive wheel that failed than have a super strong wheel become a battering ram for other suspension components that get mangled from the impact traveling through and past the wheel. Not to mention that wheel will have to be replaced in the end also either way.

Just my 2 cents.

wheels are often the most neglected thing on a car. Since a lot of people do take their 8's on the track, it is something to think seriously about. You dont need a super expensive forged wheel for occasional tracking, but do you think it will be ok to track on a cast wheel for the next 3-5 years? Maybe, maybe not. i would say I rather not. forged would last that long with good maintainence. No matter what type you have Inspected them closely for small cracks, deformatys etc--your life could depend on it. Dont take wheels for granted.
I pay good money for a helmet and I also pay good money for tires/wheels, brake rotors/pads.
Just be careful and do realize all wheels are NOT created equal.
