When I was testing my 8 before the dyno, the guys outside said my car sounded like it was supercharged as I was making the runs. They wanted to check out my intake to see what it looks like. Took them awhile to say anything because all they could see was "stock" looking :D

 

Have ran through (4) tankfuls since installing the Ram Air Duct.
There has been no change to gas mileage.

 

I can say for sure that it does fit really well with Mazdaspeed front bumper. You can see the duct hiding behind the screen.

What type of driving? What flash? I'm on "N" and have consistantly got 20.5 or better since the install of the REVi, duct and latest flash.

 

same thing for me. i have had it on for about 1k miles. no notice of mpg improvement, but i usually get 21 to 22 mpg anyway.

I specified no MPG change since the 'Ram Air Intake' install.

The REVi has been in for a few months, and I did get maybe a .5 mpg increase there.

But this thread is for the Ram Air Duct...

Unfortunately no, I haven't had time. Its calling to me from inside its box though, its driving me nuts!

Nah, there shouldn't be a problem. There's the grill on the bumper, then the intake duct is broken into small sections. It would be freakish if anything ever got in there. Besides, that's what the air filter is for anyway... to stop dirt and debris from getting into the engine.

 

yea most likely there will be *some* debris inside the airbox after a while, heck, when i took off the stock airbox during installation, there were debris in there too, and it has the long VFAD tube to get through!!!

but it'll just sit nice at the corner of the airbox harmlessly, just clean it out when you take out the air filter for cleaning :D

 

As long as it sits in the corner. :D


going on with that subject:

1. How often do you clean?
2. is there a link on how to clean?

 

they include cleaning instructions in the box :D

I may take the filter out around 10k miles just to make sure it's not TOO dirty :D

K&N actually advertises their filtering element to be able to go 50k miles before it requires cleaning, so there's a lot of room for adjustment in terms of how often you want to clean it :D

well the stock filter is good for 15k before cleaning is required, so 10k is a pretty good estimate on the K&N :D

 

I'm worried about bugs being sucked in.

 

and said bug will sit harmlessly inside airbox along with leaves, newspaper clippings, and pebbles :D

 

Does anyone know if RB made any changes to the duct so that it fits better with the OEM box? Someone mentioned earlier about a 4" pipe or something to connect the two better.

I would like to install the Ram air duct on the stock box. The Revi will come after new rims......

Any advice / suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Well as a new RX8 owner I have read a lot of these forum pages and after reading this thread I wanted to add my two cents in.

In my quest for more Power out of the 13B I have done a lot of research so far, reading, talking to other owners, etc. before I make my decision on what to spend my hard earned money on.

I have heard alot of people complaining about cost vs. HP Gains and I can sympathize with them and their concerns. Unfortunately this article didn't boost my confidence.

I picked up a copy of Import Tuner (April 06') along with all the other import mags I could find, and this issue just so happens to have some product testing of one of the most popular 8 aftermarket companies I have read about....

-Racing Beat-

They put the REVi intake and their Street Exhaust on the test Dyno and posted their results.

-First -

Stock MAX HP to the Rear Wheels - 181.0hp
This is a 24% loss from the 238 rating at the flywheel to the rear wheels.

Torque - 128.6

Still much better than the 95 or so HP from a stock Honda!

-After Installation of the REVi-

MAX HP: 185.2 +4.2hp MAX Torque: 132.2 +3.6 Cost $335.00
That's $79.76/hp

Hardly cheap.

-After Installation of Street Exhaust-

MAX HP: 187.2 +2.0hp MAX Torque: 131.2 -1.0 Cost $635.00
That's $317.00/hp



SOOOO for a total cost of $970.00 you can increase your rear wheel horsepower by 6.2 and your torque by 2.6.

Thats boils down to: $156/hp and $373/ft lb plus a good throaty sound.

I am not knocking Racing Beat products at all. Just wanted to report this in case no one had read it in the magazine.
