Racing Beat REVi Intake System

right kevin- it doesnt because its not teh stock airbox. the stock was designed with the vfad in mind- the racing beat one was designed without it.
Ha ha, sorry I worded that poorly! I guess I was thinking of the VFAD as a separate item in addition to the stock air box. Better to look at the whole stock intake design as a unit, in which case the RB comments and observations of people testing with no VFAD are not contradictory.

it would hurt if you left the stock air box in or didnt have some way of increasing the flow while retaining maf stability. see without the VFAD the car would make less power- with the stock air box. but the stock airbox / intake has some compromises to fitler choice/loudness etc. including the bell radius and a smaller air inlet at the front of the airbox. the racing beat airbox is designed to eliminate those compromises while still limiting the noise increase.

for all you peeps who want to save a few bucks for lunch or gas, get your intake at goodwin racing for $11 cheaper than racing beat:

Well....I'm FINALLY done reading...
Remember that I'm a mod embryo so I might be talking crazy here.
Did removing the VFD intake thing cut some weight? Is this thing made out of plastic, light metal...etc?
Is the RB intake system lighter than stock?
I too thought it was a little too expensive (bad HP per $ ratio) but the reviews from people that already have it has kept me interested. RB stated a 3-6HP increase in peak HP while most people feel it adds some (or feels like it does) HP across the power band making the car quicker or "feel" quicker.
Time will tell how much HP and acceleration improvement is actually made but I wanted to consider the weight of the unit also.
$320 (Added: A few HP, better sound, smoother acceleration and idle, maybe a slight improvement in fuel economy, "+ it's lighter") might be the final reason why (one day) I should buy the REVi?
So, is their setup lighter...was there a weight savings too? Heck...even if you lost 5 pounds that would be nice.
As always...thanks to everyone for helping me learn some MO....I mean more...sorry....lol

Damn, I wish the email that says my order has been shipped would come. I can't wait to install this thing. Alas, it probably wont get here this weekend, so my fun will have to wait till the next...
of those who have already been lucky enought to have one of these, did anyone do the install themselves, and how long did it take? got the tools needed list from an earlier post, but time needed to install is now the biggest question.
EDIT: WOOOOHOOOOO. Got it ordered, now the @#$%^&* waiting game begins.

did it myself- 2 1/2 hours from the time i walked into my garage until i was completely cleaned up and i pulled out for the first road test. i was going very slow and had 2 phone conversations during that time. could easily have done it in 2.
I have them at the rx8store if anyone needs one.
