RACING BEAT REVI INTAKE = problem with healights???

Hi All from Down Under ,

Run down on situation,
I have had an ongoing problem with my headlights , where the globe keeps blowing. So I have had both Headlights changed under warranty + the globes changes 4 times left hand side 2 right hand side. I have had a new alternator put in + new battery and starter motor all under warranty. And yet the problem still persists , and the only modifications that I have made are Racingbeat revi intake without the duct and a hymee exhaust and everything else is cosmetic.

Now here is the interesting part that my mazda dealer said, he reckons there may be a connection with this problem with the racing beat revi intake installed?? Can anyone post if they have had similar problems or if they have an idea what it could be. Also Mazda sent my car to an electrician and they were not able to find the problem. I am taking it tomorrow again , and they said they would have the electrician look at it again and they will replace the globes with a different brand but the same quality(incase of a faulty batch), so they said. Ooh and just before you start slammin the dealer they are very helpful and have always helped me out as much as possible and more with any issues and warranty replacements, so please no flamming just ideas or actual experiences please.

Appreciate your assistance as always. And mods please move if the thread should be elsewhere but i thought id post it here as it may relate to the revi intake.

Cheers,
ZOOMBYE

No problem with headlights.

Only thing one disconnects is the plug for the fog lights which does not relate to your problem.

My bet is some other electrical problem.

maybe you have faulty balast(spelling) for both hid lights. they are HID lights correct? did you do any mod's to the fog lights or change any bulb in the front of the car yourself?

edit: i think the intact bit is bull, i know you enjoy your dealer and i'm not slamming them, but the intake shows you had modded towards to the front on the car, maybe the dealer thinks you accidentally disconnected something important while installing the intake

thanks for the replies guys, just to add a bit more info. My Rx8 is a pov pack/cloth pack whateva u wanna call it(so whateva headlights u get with them), and no i don't have any fog lights either. The Intake was installed by a reputable mechanic in the tuner industry down under(so to speak). And I have thought about taking it to another dealer but since they have helped me a lot and have changed many things under warranty, I thought they should continue working out the problem. Since they have had it from the start and have full records, but if this persist I will take it to an electrician/Mechanic I know and see if he can help out.

And im wanting to sort this issue out in a hurry as im sick of having to drop it off and sick of having to avoid the the cops with only one headlight on at nite.

oooh and also in my opinion i don't see how it could relate to the intake, although I did hear that maybe the noise level produced could blow the globe, but then thats just a thought isn't lol. Wish i knew what the darn probnlem was .

there is always soemone like shin peter who hops into a thread with "its a lemon turn it in and get another" as if it is actually that easy. its not

second he's in australia folks "The Intake was installed by a reputable mechanic in the tuner industry down under" not to mention the package differences ( the lighting that swoope pointed out)

so - no unless the tuner cut some wire casing and there is a bare wire touching somethign and grounding out then the intake has nothign to do with it of course. even if it did the electrician should have found that through his testing. actually the electrician should have been able to find something. im thinking they should just replace teh whole unit/ballast and get that out of the way.

just to repeat swoope's question- have you changed the bulbs yourself anytime previous to this happening? and it is both sides correct? all the proper fuses have been checked?

thanks Zoom44 , and yes thats definitely not an option as we pay a lot more for RX8's down under. And I thought I would let the silly comment ride, as it makes u wonder why members(u know who u r) would bother posting if its not helpful or from experience , yet im sure they would want all the help, if they came across a problem .

anyway...... back on topic....

to answer your question, no I have never changed the bulb/globes myself, as I leave all that to the dealer and there qualified mechanic's. And yes it has happened to both headlights= right x1 and left x4 times. And I would have assumed that all fuses have been checked by the dealer if not at the very least by the electrician(will ask today). And they have replaced the whole headlight unit once for discolouring and once for this issue.

I dropped my car off this morning and got a call about lunch-time. They said that they will need my car today and tomorrow, as they will be replacing the ECU/computer U/warranty and changing the globes to a different brand. So who knows maybe that will do the trick. As they said that the lights are operated thru the ECU and they think this is now the cause.

As Previously mentioned they had said that it may be the revi intake, and that they wanted to take it out and replace it with the stock airfilter and parts. But I have continually refused, becoz i don't think it is related following all my main searches on here and on the some on the rx8club.com.au site and now this thread. And also it would be cost I would prefer not to encount.

Although I really hope it is fixed this time, I am hesistant to say it is. I will be Picking up my car in 4hours. But I have to drop it in again tomorrow so they can recode the keys to the ECU/computer.

hopefully thats the problem fixed, will let you all know. I also have the car booked in for a general service in 3-4weeks time so that should give it plenty of testing time for it to happen again if its going to..... fingers crossed it doesn't though.

Cheers,
ZOOMBYE

just the way from what it sounds Zoomby.........it sounds like some wires got tangled up........???? perhaps maybe the wires that r connected to ur headlights, some how were gettin shorted meanin the insulation on the wiring was exposed n grounded or they could be shorted on another wire..........im 90% sure that if u take off the front bumper where they took it off to put on ur intake, ull find wires like that...........if not theres always the lemon law................
