Question about midpipe with stock cb

Has anyone put a resonated mp with the stock cat back? I'm wondering how it sounds.

I'm also wondering the same thing. What about an unresonated midpipe?

I bet you that's going to be loud

I got the B&B midpipe, which has a resonator, and a stock muffler. It's a little louder than stock and a bit raspy, but not annoyingly so, imo. My only issues with it were that it didn't include gaskets or hardware, other than two nuts. Also, the hanger was sitting 1-2mm away from the crossbrace and vibrating against it at idle. I put a piece of rubber between them and zip tied it, but it'll only last so long. The midpipe is waaaaay lighter than the huge cat. I noticed a definite increase in punch. That means a 5-10 hp increase, most likely.

It backfires on a hard, high rpm upshift, but i'm not getting any flames. I'm gonna have a pipe made with an inline Magnaflow and it'll definitely shoot flames through that. When I had the midpipe off I ran the motor and it was crazy loud and shot a good 2 foot flame!

When you say raspy, you mean that unique rotary sound? So it doesn't sound deep or anything like it? I just don't feel like paying $500+ for a catback exhaust if is not going to do nothing, just looks good. I can achieve that by just changing the tips in the OEM muffler.

I've been running the midpipe with stock cat-back on my turbo - sounds like stock but a bit deeper.

Yeah, I guess it's just the unique rotary sound. It's deeper at idle, I guess. Really, just think about it as an amplified stock exhaust that weighs a lot less and actually gives you some performance gains.

I'm adding the spark plug defoulers to my O2 sensor tomorrow so that my CEL will go away. If you're not familiar, it basically just moves your O2 sensor out of the exhaust stream so that it doesn't pick up that something funny is goin on

02 defouler might not work....
(Did not work on mine, nor did the Casper electronic fix)
Instead I used the "adapter" from on of the members on the boards here.
250 miles and still no cel, seems to do the trick

I have a high flow cat with no resonator on the OEM catback. I was comparing it recently to someone with a RB cat back. The RB catback was louder. They both sound pretty good, though.

I have B&B with res. & stock exhaust.. The raspy sound kinda sounds like the BMW M3 around 2500-4500RPM.
I was infront of a guy and did a high RPM shift from 2-3 @ the stoplight he was all getty about how he saw flams out my exhaust when it backfired.. But it dosent happen all the time...

I probably should have been more clear, I have that clip save on my computer, it does a great job of showing off flames, but doesnt give a good idea of what the exhaust actually sounds like at anything other than 9K RPM's. Just about every exhaust made for our car sounds good that high, but its how they sound around town that bothers me. That being said, I appreciate you taking time to search.
