If I were you I'd wait on the CZ unit only because I don't think Mazda has gotten the ECU totally correct yet. Give them another couple of flashes and they'll be done with it.

Also you never know who will pop up out of left field with a piggyback or standalone this summer.

I'd like to see a true source development kit for the base hardware of the ECU, and also the source for the programs that Mazda/Ford have written over the top of the Hitachi OS (at least that's how I understand it?).

I think what people are missing is that in this car, the ECU has potential for more than just power gains. Its also controlling the TCS/DSC and ABS. It also controls the actuation of the throttlebody. There's alot more to tuning the car than just one A/F map. There are maps for several different conditions, along with maps relating throttle pedal position to throttlebody position.

In the new Corvette, its said that the traction control on its most aggressive setting was faster for a pro driver than with the system disengaged. We all know that traction control, properly tuned, can be faster than without. Just look at F1.

And don't forget that the ECU also controls activation of the solenoids in the intake, and for the secondary and aux ports. I think there is a TON of potential in this engine, and I think it will make close to 280-290 e-shaft hp in stock trim with different ECU programming.

The bad with the 8 is that you must wait a lot to see the stock number of hp...And many of us can't wait to reach 20000km to open the renesis and we spend alot on tuning...

A friend of mine with rmagic sport cat+trust titanium catback+ms clutches+ms fly+nology plugs+n flash, reached 180whp on the dyno and the bad thing is that a stock guy in the same dyno pulled out 181whp....Also the stock guy had 4000km and the modded 8 had 25000km...The dyno thing is very tricky....A..don't forget both 8s were the euro high-powered with 231hp at the crank(mazda numbers...)Also in another dyno the modded 8 in the begging, without a mod, pulled out 182whp...

Why am i writing this...??I would like to see the stock numbers with an ecu..And with my mods(ms fly+clutces+revi+greddy sp2+canzoomer midp-4)if we think the 231 basis is right,i shouls see 260at the crank for sure...But i ll probably see 230at the crank...so far i have 17000km...Just a pitty...

The key here is to replace the cat... that's why Mazda detuned the engine in the first place.

I understand that but Racing Beat will not alter the program to the extent that you can with a Canzoomer if it can potentially hurt the cat. They are only concerned with legal power. Not everyone else is though.

well I think it's more than that, I kind of look at them in the same light as Dinan with BMW

they are tied in with them in so many other ways that they don't want to rock the boat by getting aggressive with the software, somebody else will get there eventually though, it's just a matter of time, I saw the checksum data already available over in europe, those guys over there spend all their time doing nothing else but cracking that information
