RB has a dyno posted for the Protege5 cat-back. But that's the only one I've ever seen.

You mean for Mazdas in general or the RX-8? No... none of them offer one. I mentioned them all as companies that make flash tuners that are available in the US (some are US based).

oh boy... they have no idea. I'm staying away from that one. This thread (RB updates) was enough for me.

Anyone see that RB has the flash up on their site for $295?

http://www.racingbeat.com/FRmazda4.htm

Go to engine service in the drop down and it is listed as PCM flash.

Need to send in the PCM to get it flashed as stated earlier in the thread.

"The fact is, in our experience, the PCM will usually build a 2% to 3.5% top level trim, which means the engine is running that much richer than best power mixture. In general, this is a small amount, and will only cause a fraction of 1% loss of power."

I wonder if the power loss is actually that small. Again, I'm just wondering... not implying that RB is being dishonest.

I don't really understand the nature of the PCM and its "learning and correction" capabilities.. but what worthwhile corrections could be made by the computer that only affect a fraction of 2 hp? That's the reasoning behind my question...

And to disconnect the front 02 sensor.. again, why do that if you're only losing 1 hp for example...

The key words in that excerpt is "in general"... What I'd like to know is.. what is the power loss in extreme situations?

I wouldn't even worry about that. Has anyone else noticed how friggin' HUGE the ECU gets after the reflash?

I'm amazed the hood shuts.

I wonder if they plan a similar thing for the 4-ports?

the dyno they are showing--- is that to the rear wheels or at the flywheel? If it is at the rear wheels then their stock (oem) engine was doing pretty dog gone good!
Power still drops at over 8.5 but starting point is much higher.
This has to be at the flywheel dyno.

United States spec RX-8s...Ummm I guess that leaves the Canadians and the rest of the world out of enjoying this new found power.

No, it's only mean they have not tested it in other RX-8's, surely they'll love to test your ECU to see ;-)

Any other flash will mess with this. All questions are answered on RB's website regarding the flash.
