Damn, I got 0Wn3d. Gee, do a search (n00b?).

Since you were so hot on the subject, I figured you have have some inroads as to US manufactuers, or suppliers selling Single Exit exhausts.

I don't believe it. There was something else about each system tested that contributed to that result. 2 mufflers is less backpressure than 1, it is twice the muffling of one. If the Y junction is good and the pipes after it are larger than the main pipe, there shouldn't be an increase in backpressure. There won't be any additional power either though since the restriction is the main pipe. There was more going on in the S2000 exhaust test. A single muffler is not faster and the small weight difference will not make you faster either. However, it isn't necessarily slower either. A single exhaust is purely aesthetics.

But wouldn't the Y junction severely slow gas velocities the same as enlarging the pipe? I thought a fully tuned exhaust would maintain the gas velocity to help evacuate exhaust gasses.

And those who don't use the '8 for competition may not agree, but to me ANY weight savings is good thing. Ten pounds here, ten pounds there, it all adds up.

You can either keep the total area the same after the Y pipe or you can enlarge it. All of the engine tuning has already been done by this point so the area increase at this part of the exhaust is irrelevant. You can take the muffler completely off and not suffer any loss. You'd only gain about 4 peak hp from this method.

Yeah, but did they fab the exhaust tip in the shape of a rotor so it looked like it belonged there instead of just cutting a hole?

Yep, it was rotor shaped tip. I thought I'd like it until I saw it.

4 hp is the max that you can get from a new muffler system. This is how much of a gain you would get if you had NO muffler. If you put one on, you aren't getting 4. Any difference in power between a single exhaust and a dual tip exhaust has to be within 4 hp of each other but in reality it is probably the same.

4 hp is the max. RB tested NO muffler (hence least restriction) and only got 4 hp. Their unit gives about 3 hp. They tested several other units and got only about 3 hp to actually losing hp. The claims that you can get 10-12 hp on this car from a cat back exhaust is absurd. With the whole exhaust system modified (race headers & midpipe/no cats) they were only getting like 10-12 hp.
