Hahah yes you got me. But seriously, I don't understand why ppl dislike something by its looks.

Also, I doubt it will cost $600 considering that their catback is cheaper.

funny how RB basically designed the mazdaspeed protege and works on their R/D even on the 8, testing their forced induction and etc.

also the concept Mazdaspeed rx8 had racingbeat parts on it... such as sways and springs...
so who knows... maybe RB helped design/tune this either...

in my book RB and Mazdaspeed are very close relatives

Listen RB makes some good products MS makes some good products

for instance, RB's products for the RX-7 most are outstanding, for the RX-8 the Intake and Ramair is great...beautiful work

but RB's catback design/material use allows the tips to turn gold and require a good scrub/metal polish often. Also many were having trouble with their clutch or flywheel I can't remember but it was fixed anyhow

KandN released the crapiest intake for our car robbing us of horsepower, then they come out with a new one that does quite well

Mazdaspeed releases some great cosmetic pieces (bodykit anyone ), and their suspension kit is top notch (just overpriced severely)

But certain things Mazdaspeed make are way to conservative and at the premium prices they sell at it is simply not worth it. Their muffler is expensive and they didn't even expand the size of the tips (cosmetic reasons only of course since 2.5inch is the max tubing needed)

The reason people are up in arms about this intake is how simple it is and why did it take this long to build it? and how will that design justify its premium price. Just things to think about.

too bad that was then this is now. RB has nothing to do with the current mazda models. ie. ms6,ms miata.......rb is just a joe shmoe type company that makes specialized products for certain cars. They make products for old men to enjoy.

maybe they tested it for a year. or maybe it took long for the carb cert. who knows but it's here and until someone puts one in their car and dynoes it. I think we can save our judgement till then.

i like racing beat, used their stuff on my miata, friends rx7s and like some of their parts for the rx8, but there are MANY MANY other companys I love and I wish I had more money to buy their parts.

The best parts for cars will come from all differnt companys.

Tuning houses like REa, Fuji, autoEXE, ect ect ect.

I don't think the picture is the actuall RX8 CAI. The tubing may be different. Here's a quote from the vendor who will be selling these soon.....

You guys are forgetting the best intake outhere... HKS. This is way better than RB.

However if you want to gain any significant power, the only way to achieve this will be FI.

Have any data to back that up, or are you just touting your preference based on looks, sound, or feel, etc?

none in inventory yet, no date for a price release

told me tocall back in a week

fwiw, I could build a revi for $40 worth of plastic too, try to be more openminded, RB has a good reputation but they are by no means the Gods of the rotary world, some of their RX-8 parts are hardly the best available

Team RX8 have you ever seen the REvi intake or RAM?

the reality is it is high quality

the ram air is huge injection molded

AEM is very similar to the MS generic CAI pic on the first page of this thread

Read my post more carefully... I said if you really want any gains you will need to go FI route.

No intake will give you any gains period. (~ 2-3 HP at most if any!)

I just like the quality, look and sound. IMO the OEM is tough to beat but its just too "civilized" for my taste.

Carlos
ps. I also ditched the OEM exhaust... It was worthless!

I'm not claiming one is better than the other, Mazdaspeed doesn't necessarily have the best parts either, I just don't see the point in having another mega-page thread based on nothing more than idle speculation. I'm sure a couple of people will buy and test them regardless, then we'll have a clearer picture of what it's capability is

I don't need to read your post - you're quite clear. You claim 'HKS is the Best intake for the RX8'. I'm asking: "do you have any DATA to back that up, or are you simply a fan of HKS because that may be the intake you have?"

Now, which is it - 'no gains' or 2-3hp? 2-3hp is more than 'no gains'. Are you talking 'peak hp' (2-3hp at the max rpm for the max power) or 2-3hp over a broad rpm range (For example, 2-3hp gain from 2000-7000 rpms)? 2-3hp in a specific part of the rpm range? (for example, a 2-3hp gain at 3512 rpms).

It seems like you judge HKS as 'best' because you like the sound and the look, and think the product is well-made. Fine. It's much better to say something like "For me, the HKS intake works well, and I'm happy with my purchase". Saying something like I suggest could give you more credibility.

This intake looks as if it was taken from a K&N system for an Acura Integra. I truely thought that MS would have come out with a more innovative design....

Also I don't think we need to close this thread down.....this is the 1st discussion of the new product.
