New bhr coils or Sakebomb coils
Hello everyone,
I am about to upgrade my ignition System, but I can't decide which way to go. Bhr has there new globally compliant racing coils that are a direct fit but I haven't been able to find much feedback on them using the search function. The sakebomb coils look awesome to but still need a mounting bracket, and harness to install. What do you guys think. Has anyone bought the new bhr coils and if so how are they performing.

Idk, about the new BHR, but I'm sure they've been proven.
I have the SakeBomb, bought it a couple of years ago.
No complaints.

Get the new BHR coils. They are direct replacements for the stock coils. No bracket, adapter harness or special plug wires required. They are also significantly less expensive than the Sakebomb kit. I have the new BHR coils on my R3, no issues so far. They’ve only been on my car for about a month so I can’t comment on long term durability yet. But based on past experience with BHR products, I doubt I’ll have any issues. And in unlikely event I do have an issue, BHR’s support is top notch.

I really want their mid pipe but financially things are tight right now. My secondary air injection solenoid valve is going. I've been considering deleting the air pump and just chopping off the flanges from the cat and having a exhaust pipe bent and welded to the flanges. I'm in ontario and they just got rid of emissions test, but I am slightly worried about how loud it will be. I don't find the stock exhaust to be that loud until around 6000 rpm or so.

I have received the BHR ignition kit this week, it does make a difference and I'm very happy!
Don't worry about the midpipe, at least from loudness perspective (the smell is a whole another thing...) - even if you buy a cheap, non-resonated or fabricate one yourself, it will not be much louder with the stock muffler.

See price point and a history of good customer service is why I'm leaning towards bhr, I know they have put quite a bit of r&d into those coils because there was mention of their development a few years back so they have at least a few years of development the only unfortunate part was they used to have lifetime warranty now they have 5 year. Knowing how good bhr is to their customers that 5 year warranty tells me that's the expected average lifetime of the coils but at just over 450 for the set its understandable, considering the r&d that went into them I'm sure their costs to produce are quite substantial. But even so im in canada and its almost 900 for coils plugs and wires. At 707 CAD im still better off with the bhr saving 200 and warrantied for 5 year. Than 900 for mazdaz with the expectation of replace in 30000km ( yr and a bit with the amount I drive).

I don't have the newest version...... but 8 years of boost on my original set of BHR coils should speak for itself...... also a fellow Canadian
I also have the BHR Midpipe (9 years of boost) and it is rock solid. I've bought many products from BHR, customer service second to none!

Not that I'm going against BHR here (every interaction I've had with them has been top notch) I just think SakeBomb's kit doesn't have enough information in the thread to justify an accurate comparison between the two.

Well they both have a good reputation, but since there isn't much out there on the new bhr I just wanted some input from people with first hand experience with these suppliers. I'm leaning towards the bhr because they are a direct install and a bit cheaper. I'm not one to trade quality for cost with the rx8 (that's what a honda civic is for :p) but I know I'm still getting excellent quality with the bhr, so unless someone can show any advantage that the sakebomb coils have over the bhr than I'm probably going to pick up a set of bhr coils.

I have the old BHR kit in my garage that I took off to put the SB in.
I read all the input from the SB and IGN1A threads, I liked the concept, it seemed logical to me.
My opinion was the Mercury coils were likely superior to the GM ones.
If the new BHR kit was available I might have tried that instead.
I wanted to be a 'Guinea pig' and it gave me an excuse to do some wrenching.
I would say the new BHR kit has the advantage now being a true 'Plug & play'.
IIrc, the SB won't fit in Sport models without modification.

I'm strictly NA, not tuned.
I remember one person said he had one coil fail, did get it replaced, but iIrc, wasn't real thrilled with their customer service.
I'll say this with a qualifier;
I thought my 8 ran better after the install (still does) but that is usually the case with any ignition work.
Usually new coils, wires and plugs will give you a noticeable improvement, especially in my case where I will always clean the ESS & MAF sensor.
In regards to overheating, one of the factors I liked was the bracket is mounted on the AC a bit further away from the original mounting bracket, which maybe helps keep it away from a heat soaked engine.

You can see some of them in some thread replies, but now reading some of the threads have responses to seemingly no one.
Now, I have a BHR midpipe, ignition kit, reinforced clutch pedal, and fuel pump ring removal tool, and am 100% satisfied with all these transactions, and his good reputation for customer service is well deserved.
HOWEVER, I don't think I ever commented on his leaving.
I don't care he quit the forum, but the fact that he deleted his posts, many of which were very helpful and knowledgeable, I found to be incredibly petty.

I owned a guitar amplifier manufacturing and direct sales business and was active online in sales and support for 11 years. The only thing worse than car people is guitar people. After years of abuse from internet trolls, I did the exact same thing Charles did. Good folks I wanted to interact with had my email address and phone number. I don't find it petty at all. PEOPLE SUCK. INTERNET PEOPLE SUCK WORSE. This is now a fact of life, and good-hearted people can only stand it for so long.
He was one of the first to reach out after I bought mine when I didn't know jack about 8s and was having issues I didn't understand.
His responses to my questions could've helped new members who had nothing to do with his previous experiences here.
His leaving the forum is fine, BUT, he ran a business that targeted and profited from the members of this forum.
Deleting posts that could help someone who had nothing to do with the 'abuse' is petty, imo, and I might even add spiteful and vindictive.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and that's mine.

I ran the sakebomb coils for about a thousand miles. Had misfires / ignition breakup at 10 psi boost pressure. Tuner couldn’t solve it, engine builder couldn’t solve it. Sakebomb was not at all helpful in troubleshooting it. Later on I had idle problems too. Charles helped me switch to the new style BHR. I’ll let you know how it goes.
