NA major tune up
All along we never mentioned about how to tune up our car for NA. i think there is a lot of potential for our car to be tuned up NA. of course it will not as strong as a Force induction car, but it will be great.
what i did is,
1. High Spark Cable
2. Sport Plug
3. Light weight pulley, same size, light weight
4. oil cooler
5. planning on putting ATF cooler
anyone have great ideas or experience on tuning NA up. please constribute some expetise here thanks.

Mazda pulled about as much reliable HP that can be found ( 6-speed ) from this car. You have an AT why can't you just accept the fact you have a great handling, great looking car that is just a bit slow as compared to other cars in it's segment.

if you want to go all out do exhaust and intake too, but we are looking at close to $3000 in mods

This is how I am doing it :
1. RB REVi Air Intake & Ram Air Duct
2. AP Pulley
3. Hi-flow cat
4. Cat Back Exhaust
5. RB PCM Re-Flash
Everything else is just window dressing. Spark plug cables (I have them) don't add hp), neither do colder plugs. I already have the lightweight flywheel.

Catback is more for sound, and looks.
Intake, nobody has shown that it doesn't give decent hp gains. It was a statement by a few people, and it snowballed from there. There have been a whpping two published stories on them. In one, POLAK, a well respected member on here did it for Rotary Tuner magazine and got about 10 hp gain. The other was Import Tuner magazine and they got 4 hp increase. The people that claim no hp gain, have never shown real dynos that prove that fact.

LW flywheel (most expensive but worth it)
RB flash
Hi flow cat
AP pulley
RB duct
K&N drop in filter
Do all that & you get quicker 8 for pretty cheap.

If I had the money, my personal list of mods would be as follows:
-Header (Ebay, probably, heat wrapped), to resonated midpipe, to GReddy SP2 Catback. If you want it to be a little quieter, go for a Racing Beat catback, but either way, it's not going to be too loud.
-AEM Cold-air intake, with heat wrap around the piping.
-Some good clutch, and lightweight flywheel
-Lightweight pullies, underdrive perhaps
-RB Flash, or Interceptor-X
All that..and I think you'd have a reliable 210-220rwhp. I think the car would feel INCREDIBLY different, as thats a good 40-50rwhp over stock..
Edit: Not to mention, a full "tune up" is always more important than any performance mods..
-Clean MAF
-New spark plugs + wires
-New filters all around (oil, fuel, air, etc)
-New fuel lines
-New vacuum hoses (silicone)
-Synthetic oil in the transmission and differential (Redline or Royal Purple)
-Of course, an oil change, haha.
Doing all of this regularly (the oil, filters, and spark plugs more than others, obviously), and your 8 will love you for a long, long time.

^^^ That may be so, but, theres only one way to find out
Edit: People always said it was impossible to break 200whp on an NA 13B engine (2nd gen RX7's), until one day a few random people just starting slapping out dyno sheets for 200-210whp..
I know a lot of people on here are making 200-205rwhp already, but I don't know of any one who is doing all of the above mentioned. ESPECIALLY the EMS and header..I just don't see those on any NA 8's...

I'll snap his neck.
I have a 05 AT, and i think the Mazdaspeed dual muffler exhaust may have freed up a bit of power. Not much, but it was noticeable. Or maybe its just because it sounds faster
I'm going to be installing a lower rear end gear soon, so we'll see what that does. I think it will help it because the weakness of the 4AT is the tall gearing in the tranny, IMHO.

alright guys, thanks for giving me an idea of my shopping list. kekekeke
anyway, i already have:
MS air filter
Greddy pulley
sport plug cable
thinking of :
exhaust
hi-flow cat
4.77 final gear
bringing RE ecu tune is almost a dream here. not easy, well its still in my wish list though.

I have the 6 spd auto and so far I have the Agency Pulley and RB Catback exhaust. Plans are to get the RB REVi intake with the air duct and screens at the end of this month. Other plans in 4-6 months time are full synthetic transmission flush w/redline or royal purple and interceptor x to increase the redline to 8500 and minor tuning options.

Modification to operate correctly?
I assume you mean to operate the air pump, which..operates the aux ports?
There are many ways around this, and, for anyone going for ultimate power / simplification, many ways to improve upon the design..
