mpg saving mods?
ok im doing an estimate and im averaging 15-17 mpg... i have a AEM intake sr motor sports hi flow cat and a greddy sp2 exhaust... this kinda sucks.. this is city driving with most shifts at 4k and id say 3-4 times shift at 6500 and red line..should i be expecting a little more??? i know the est is 18-24... but even when i drove 3/4 of my tank on the turnpike... cruising at 75i averaged 17mpg....
so my question is there any mods that will improve my mpg? or are any of these parts affecting my mpg?
turbo users... what is your avg mpg? and what are your shift points?

Go Texas Longhorns!
first off, get a external AFR meter and see how rich/lean your running.
1. check to make sure your on the latest flash
2. make sure your tire pressures are 32psi cold
3. switch to royal purple tranny and diff fluid
4. make sure that your underbody aero pieces are all there and not dragging
5. clean your MAF
6. clean your air filter

I've tried:
Warm-up / No Warm-up
Drive to the beep / Granny it
87 / 90 / 91 Octane
Factory Air Filter vs. K&N Panel
... and still I get less then 11 mpg.
I will say that switching to Royal Purple has improved my Highway mpg +2
I did seem to get better mpg with the L-Flash my 8 shipped with...
I was keeping the RPM's down during break-in and had more 70 mph vs. my daily 40 mph now.

I get 19mpg full city driving, zero highway, consistently week after week. This is with shifting at 3-4k mostly 3k for normal driving, and I take a few spirited 5-9k shifts in 1st/2nd every day.

My gas mileage went on average from about 200 miles per tank to about 185-190 miles after I went turbo (but could also be the fact that I step on it a bit more) in primarily street driving. In terms of saving gas, I would definitely check AFR ratios & lean out a bit (Canzoomer) & get hp too. Also I think some people were selling a longer gear. Would hurt acceleration a bit, but give you better gas mileage.

200 miles to the tank on n/a? Are you talking a full tank?
Seriously, are all of your cars broken or something? I fill up at around 240 to 250 miles and the tank isn't even empty yet, like a gallon or so left to go. I don't drive easy at all either, I romp on it every day for fun.

This ends up being around 19mpg each time. Sometimes in the 18's, rarely in the 17's except when I really got aggressive or drove angry for a few days in a row.

I get well over 240 with city driving, more on the freeway. Put the stock exhaust back on, I found when I put my greddy on I lost a little mpg. I figured it was due to a little lower back pressure.
Or just trade it in on a civic

i usually get at least 225 when i know im driving it hard, can probably hit 300 with all highway driving but havent pushed that far. i think the best i ever got was 285ish.
keeping your rpms under 3750 does help some. thats the point where the second set of ports open up and sinve ive been doing that ive been getting an extra 1-2mpg. on tanks where i open it up often it reverts back down to the 15-16mpg range. users are also reporting 1-2mpg increase when using the revi intake. mine should arrive today so hopefully in a month or so ill have some good data on that

I think Mazda should explore the idea of deactivating one rotor when it is not needed - such as highway cruising, just like the GM and Toyota vehicles. Now that would be a good fuel saving technique :-)

Yes, I think my car is broken. Do you want to trade for a week so you can see it for yourself?
