Lightbulb The Minority 8 [ECU and RE-Intake]

I just got back from my 3rd dyno day. On 3/31/04 I did some comparisons between Stock and the RE-Intake. My 8 happens to be a minority 8 in the aspect that the RE-Intake made me lose about 15.8 hp peak, which also carried on through the mid-range. Another oddity of my 8 is that I was peaked at 185.2, almost all other 8’s dyno’d at this shop I believe were in the low 170’s. I began to think that maybe the reason for me being a minority was that my car had a different ECU setting. My car arrived in port on 7/13/03, maybe that’s why.

So I received the latest reflash from Mazda, I couldn’t find any sticker to tell me the letter. So either L or M. Today for comparisons we did a stock run, now it seems I’m no longer a minority in HP.

Latest Flash VS Old Flash [4th gear pulls]
Max Power: 167.2 @ 7.2k – 185.2 @ 8.2k
Torque: 136.1 @ 5.2k – 137.3 @ 6k

As you can see, a big drop. I’m also back in line with the other 8’s. You can also tell the difference starts right after 5k.

Now to see if I was correct, I ran the RE-Intake. I gained 4 hp and lost a little torque in the mid-range.
Stock Vs RE [3rd gear]
Max Power: 177.4 @ 8.8k – 182.3 @ 8.6k
Torque: 133.9 @ 6k – 130.5 @ 6k

So the RE-Intake does work. But I want my old map back!

Here's a post for the RE-Intake

Well that sure sucks. I also have a "first batch" 8. Maybe I don't want the reflash after all.

Didn't I read somewhere that it seemed to people that the newer L and M maps seemed to be better throughout the power band, possibly at the expense of peak power? Without looking at numbers, can you tell the difference when you drive it?

Much smoother, no sudden surges in power in the upper band that I had. I wish i had some 1/4 times before and after to compare better.

Why are you in 3rd gear? That generally reduces the Hp numbers?

not really sure, just what the garage did. But we ran a stock and then the RE intake so comparisons would be correct.

Could the difference be, that you ran 1000 rpm less (7200 rpm vrs. 8200 rpm) when you were running the stock filter?

Yeah, I wouldn't rely on just a few dynos and with this cars temperment it's tricky.Temp can play a big difference after heat soak. You probably have the same power as before, maybe even a little more after the flash. Try to get the same conditions (Temperature, fuel, tire psi, ect) as before when you ran the 185.2 H.P. stock.

I know I'm at less power, I could feel the difference the day I jumped in it. Nearly 20 hp is a lot to be off due to Temp, or anything else.

Really scary!
I'm not even sure I'm still sold on the CZ#1... It seems the RENESIS is a hard nut to crack

Canzoomers mod is definitely a worthwhile mod for the money and the flash updates are worked out. The good thing about the stage 3 is you can have a decent kick in the pants upgrade now and when a supercharger comes out you can take advantage of the whole powerband especially down low where many feel it is sorely needed.
