Mid-pipe Vs. MPG

I did search but not much to see.

I'm getting mid-pipe put on soon.

I know that Fireball comes out when you de-cel. you also get CEL on.

Okay, but what about your MPG? Since o2 isn't getting it's proper signal, does it actually use more fuel?

Anyone who has mid-pipe with cel on, do you guys use more fuel than before mid-pipe installed?

Let me know

essentially you should get better gas mileage because there is no restriction anymore and its free flowing, but as you well know, the 8 MPG sucks anyway, i doubt you'll see a difference. It may even go down because you'll probably have your foot down on the pedal going WOT through all the gears!!!!!! haha

Hey Foo,

What are you saying by "You're right"

I ask question,

I don't get it.

Use more fuel or not?

midpipe means no cat..

midpipe with resonator still not cat.

clear?

cat means cat. cat w resonator means cat with resonator..

hope this helps.

Let me know
anyone who has taken the cat out will tell you it will smell more after .
According to my exhuast guy the smell is from unburnt fuel at idle . You can actually see the fuel vapours . This would suggest higher fuel use at idle but I can't say it made any difference to my overall usage.

It's not that you're using more fuel at idle or whatever. You've got unburned gas coming out of your engine no matter what. It's just a question of whether or not you have a cat there to burn off the remaining vapors.

I have a mid pipe....

I got my turbo before i swapped the pipe.. My observations are:

Backfiring is louder
Car is much louder
Fuel wise - i dont really track my gas consumption
I have no CEL related to this at all
I love the twin flames..... :P

even if your 8 is stock just sit some where and rev it up with the clutch in (or the gearstick in the jiggly center... and yes i came up with that by myself) Rev it up and let it come down all on its own... you can kinda hear a pop pop pop... thats when the flame will come out. For example if you do a really hard 1-2 shift without a lot of letup on the gas you'll probably shoot flames during the shift.

Oh and for the record when the flames come out its called "post-ignition auto detonation" Not backfiring.

So can someone clear up this thead?

Does the installation of a mid pipe induce a CEL or not? I thought if you plugged in the O2 sensor in the bung everything would be okay.....

Search for this kinda info is making my head spin.....

Yes. You willl get a CEL. Might not be right away, but it will eventually come on.

The bung is nothing more than a o2 sensor holder for a midpipe.
