Mazsport Ignition Solution

Mazsport Ignition Solution
So I have this ignition kit and I saw zo0m's rewiring idea for the kit that makes sense and I am planning on rewiring the ignition box somewhere away from the engine block out of most of the heat. My question is where can I get a replacement unit? I am not sure since mazsport closed down or what not that they are no longer available through microtech? But I do not know what microtech is or how to get ahold of them. Any help would be appreciated.
Anyone with this kit, is it normal for my 8 to idle with misfires? I am guessing no, but it is not noticeable when I go though the rpm band.
Thanks!

No it is never normal for RX8 to idle with misfires, and serious misfires can start you down the road to engine and/or cat trouble. You don't really say what parts of the ignition kit you have. Is it a Mazsport including new coils, new wires and new plugs ? Give us some more pertinent info so folks can properly advise you.

The ignition kit is listed in the thread title.
Fickert, Mazsport has been re-incarnated a few times under different names as he kept trying to bypass each of his previous bans from the community here. Mazsport itself as a business filed bankruptcy after Scott took a lot of money from a lot of people on the forum, over $100,000, for parts or services which were never made good on. The same guy is still in business under another name, but you have zero chance of getting any support from him on that.
It is recommended that you ditch the kit and either go back to OEM ignition or go to BHR's kit. You have a good chance of never getting it run right on that kit.

At the time it was the best solution out there...and the Bosch coils were a common upgrade in the rotary circles at the time. There as better options now as coil tech has changed a lot since 2005

Thanks for all the input everyone. And I knew that mazsport was made early but I didn't know the kit was over powered by the BHR that much. I will be looking into either a diy makeup of the yukon coils or bhr. I will figure out which when I have the cash.

But I can save a decent chunk of change can I? I thought I read somewhere yukon coils kits run about 200 dollars total all said and done? And sorry to avoid your question, I have the whole kit, minus plugs. Plugs were taken out and brushed and put back in if that helps at all. And backfire was going on before I installed the kit, one of the reasons I installed it in the first place actually.

I second this, you are better off with the plug and play BHR kit (coils and wires). It won't have to be changed out ever and you will get a slight hp and mpg bump without any diy fitment headaches. There are used BHR kits available on this forum from time to time.

Im sure you'll get the same hp with a set of new factory wires and plugs...
Don't be afraid to piece the ebay parts together. Same damn part, and shouldn't be a headache unless you over think a simple job as the coils.

So you consistantly have misfires even before you changed the ingition system. I myself would also reccomend changing to the BHR kit. BUT i would also check the CAT. Multiple misfires over a consistant period of time sound like a clogged CAT to me. I've had one, it caused my coils to fail my plugs to fail and also my engine to DIE. Once the new motor was in i gutted the CAT. Soon to be upgrading to a Mid pipe but thats neither here nor there. If your having misfire's all the time you seriously need to stop driving the car until it's figured out.

I think piecing together the kit wouldn't be hard at all, just need some time and research. Also, I have a bhr midpipe, (no cat) and it still had misfires when I had the cat so I know that wasn't the problem. Also looking into bennitbuilts kit that he just posted on earlier this week. I will look, but is there any diy ignitions with the use of yukon coils or similar? I think I remember reading one about bosch but ehh thats iffy and that would be no upgrade on my part as my coils are practically bosch.

BHR is still going to be the best bet. Your likely going to spend close to if not the same money building it, and BHR's kits are already proven to be perfect. Are you throwing a code?

No you are wrong, it is pure physics, the BHR kit gives a hotter, higher voltage spark than the oem. It helps gives better , more complete combustion than oem. It is a slight bump , but still you will get a hp and mpg bump over oem. Talk to anyone who has run the BHR kit vs new oem coils and wires.

I throw a code for an upstream o2 but I was never sure if an o2 would cause a misfire, rather just rough idle and jumps in the rpm band. Trust me I am trying my best to get it replaced but I wanted to figure out if my ignition should go first or not.

If you can find an ngk 4-wire wideband for less, then yes. Don't go to offbrands, the sensor is too critical and there is significant variance in wideband calibration and manufacture. Mazmart's is a 'for sure' solution.

that would a be a universal upstream sensor from ngk? I was planning on buying just ngk, I remember researching when I initially found out that was the issue that ngk is the only way to go. Thanks I will get results up of any misfires after I get that. Just won't be home for another 4 weeks from school. What a wait. Grrr.

Anyone reading and want codes for o2 sensors are here is a copy from the ngk website. And a little extra helpful info.

Even emails concern me just because some people don't care and just say they do. I just don't know but I found one that is 4 wire plug for 138, open box so I might take that route. Just gotta wait for a few peoples' payments from my partout to go ahead with this. Hint Hint* anyone that is reading and is on my list for parts!
