i have the rp high flow cat... nothing but good things. having a high flow cat will make it louder n raspier. is raspier a word? Magnaflow usually makes top quality stuff so probably same result

You will get a few extra hp

high flow cat + greddy sp2 = ~22 extra hp

Alright.. ive really learned a lot the year and 1/2 that I have owned the eight and been on this site...but one thing I have always been confused on is the difference between the high flow cats...mid pipe's test pipes and all those other pipes...Can someone help me out. Also, I know midpipes bring up the CEL but are there and high flows that don't?

Is the magnaflow high flow cat a ceramic or metal cat? The ceramic core cats can't stand up to the exhaust temperatures produced by the rotary engine. And while metal cats can withstand greater temperatures, many of those fail also. Also, when your looking for a high flow cat, look for the number of "cells per inch" CPI. 150CPI is average, 100 CPI is better because it flows easer. Of the pre-made high flow cat mid pipes out there today, the RP Supercat is the most popular.

A high flow cat is just like the emissions system presently on your car. The only difference is this cat will pass the gasses through more easily. This allows your car to be emissions legal (in most locations) and you will still get a HP gain.
A mid-pipe/test pipe is a straight through pipe that replaces the one with the catalytic converter. It is loud and will smell due to the alcohol in the gas being burned. The cat normally gets hot enough to burn off what makes that smell. This pipe will result in the most HP gain.
Then there is the resonated mid-pipe. This is just like the mid-pipe/test pipe, except it has 1 or 2 resonators (mufflers) on the pipe to quiet the exhaust. This is desired by most people due to the noise a rotary engine makes. An unmuffled rotary is extremely loud and will cause hearing damage. The resonated mid-pipe will give you virtually the same HP as the straight mid-pipe and keep your relations with the neighbors & police on better terms.

Thanks for the info. I gained some knowledge about them over time by just reading other threads... Sorry but I have a few more... Does the high flow pull the CEL? Does it gain less HP than a straight mid pipe? Id like to get one sooner or later but didnt want to pull the CEL and have it smell real bad... Prolly go with the high flow unless there is something else

When i put the magnaflo cat on it cleared my cel after the second time i drove it

In NY do you have the sniffer test or just the obd2 test? I have heard that high flow cats will not pass a sniffer test but it might depend on the cat and the state.

If they go inside the car and hook up to the obd2 port then yes that is all. If they stick a hose on or near the exhaust then thats the sniffer test. In vegas it is just the obd2 test and pretty easy to defeat it even with no cat.

Its just an OBD2 test done here in NY. No sniffer for emissions.
