LS-2 Vs. BHR Coil upgrade

Bought my 8 its got 40000 mi on it. Asked stealership if coil and plugs and wires had been replaced tried to give me runaround about there 1 gazillion point inspection. Asked what the ohm load from those tired coils was of course got the blank stare. They replaced my coils and plugs. Personally for me even though my coils are new I'm getting bhr set as soon as I can. You get what you pay for its a no brainer for me.

True, however I didn't post to compare the RR coils to my old stock ones, I posted to relate that I had a pleasant experience purchasing from them, and have been pleased with the results. I will be buying the BHR setup at some point, however, wanted to save the money at present because I have already put ~$8k into the car and will be putting another ~$8k or so into the engine and body. I needed the ignition system replaced, wanted to put the $50 I'm saving toward my rebuilt engine, hence, RR kit made more sense to me. Provided they last a couple of years, I'll have gotten my $450 worth out of them. Seems to me that the market place is big enough for BHR, and RCe Roots.

Those MSD Coils sure do look nice and possibly have more spark power than the other LS2 Coils . . (Possibly)
But this is what I got and it sure does match BHR's.. I never had stock ones didn't know what they looked like.

the Race Roots coils do not have a heat sink on them. I purchased from them on eBay, they were pleasant to deal with. I have been purchasing from eBay for nearly 15 years now, there are good and bad experiences to be had and good and bad e-tailors on the site. Race Roots had shipped my package with a defective wire, and were quick to ship a replacement. I don't know the history about the product, but if BHR found that there was a need for an upgraded ignition system, good for them. If someone comes on the scene with a different product (which this appears to be) I think calling it a rip-off product is a bit harsh. As I stated, I have seen dramatic improvement over my admittedly over-the-hill OEM ignition system. The car fires up quickly and smoothly, I have seen a dramatic improvement on my gas mileage, and as long as this system lasts me as long as the OEM kit would, I am very pleased with my purchase.

Anybody with half a brain knew that it would work. I sold MM the set of LS2 coils that I bought and sat on for a long timer because I never put the time in to find connectors since cutting the wiring harness was not an option for the class I raced in.

Finding the connectors is not unique, swapping smart coils is not unique. Every piece of information was available from other sources including the Yukon selection which is status quo for one particular person. Your only real credit was being the first PnP kit on the market for the RX8, that's it. There are several features I would have done differently.
You don't do yourself any favor trying to over-play the situation. If it was unique and novel you could have gotten a patent to protect yourself, except we both know the application would have been rejected because there is nothing unique or novel about the idea or application in general.

Besides providing a premium part from all the research I've done. The often forgotten thing people always forget is the service after the sale. I read thread after thread of BHR providing exactly that (even on christmas, now that's dedication) keep up the good work Charles. You'll be hereing from me soon also coils and midpipe. Don't let haterz get ya down.

I can also attest to how helpful CRH can be. Back when I installed nitrous in my 8, he was a huge help. This was before BHR and I'm not sure if I even bought directly from him. I know he set up the order somehow, though it might have been through a distributor he knew. Anyway, he readily offered his number to call if I had any questions or problems during the install. I did have to take him up on that offer a couple of times and he was always eager to help. Many companies/people will leave you on your own once you purchase a product, so it's nice to see someone readily offering their services after you've paid for the product.
It's definitely worth paying a little extra for quality service (before and after purchase) on some items.

"Good, Fast, Cheap, pick any two."
Look, there are many roads to Rome. Someone who loves messing around, who doesn't need the car as a daily driver, has enough spare time, and has, or is willing to learn, the required skills, can make most any reasonable choice work. Someone who just doesn't have the cash in hand, may have to get by with a less than optimal solution (though buying total junk is no solution).
I went BHR, because:
1) I have the cash in hand (and compared to changing the stock coils every 30k miles it's cheaper in the long run.)
2) There are common situations in my present life, such as 2 a.m. in deep downtown Detroit with a pretty companion, when an ignition failure is absolutely unacceptable.
3) BHR is not just a vendor, they do the engineering of most of their products and are immediately available for consultation.
4) BHR ignitions, near as I can tell, are by far the most common aftermarket ignition system for RX-8's. Earlier customers are my torture testers; Every combination of climate, temperature, race track, nitrous, turbo setup and such has already been tried. I'd rather they discover any flaws than me.
5) Though opinions vary, my time is worth something. Messing with ignition systems is not something I wish to do at present, especially when a good solution has already been found.

at the end of the day .. nothing allows another company to improve on their products and prove their products like competition .... I am just glad there are options which spark discussions like this that help educate the potential buyer on "this is why mine is better"
I cannot prove or disprove anything about either product, but surely does make you want to research a bit more when a company is saying "tried that and it failed so now we are using this". (not to disprove, but to educate yourself)
yay corporate amurika!

I don't have time for funny business and the BHR ignition has proven to be reliable and the service is as good as it gets. I see no point is going elsewhere to save a few bucks and I see no need for any home made bullshit either.

I am fed up being an outsider in Hawaii :-( Even BHR discriminates against me - Charles how do I order an ignition kit (I think I am going to) if I live on the forgotten isles.
(RANT ALERT - So fed up with not being able to get stuff. Amazon is the big nightmare - you don't find out that 25% of stuff will not ship here until you get right to the end of checkout - rant over!)
Oh one other thing, real newb question sorry, it is $80 extra for polishing - what the heck gets polished???
TIA Steve

Given that I have shipped plenty of stuff to HI, including myself, I am pretty sure you are not discriminated against nor an outsider. LOL

I am doing compression test next week and OBD readers (plural) arrive tomorrow so may well be sending you my very hard earned cash end of next week. Do i have to order via email for Hawaii??
Looks like a great product BTW which I hope makes you feel very proud and self satisfied!

Aloha, Steve.
Start a business of your own and deal with shipping various sizes of products to various kinds of people, stranded Brits or not, and see for yourself what I deal with every day and why things are worded on our website as they are. Far too complicated to explain here.
If your compression is low, get your engine rebuilt/replaced before you spend money on anything else.
Otherwise, your particular BHR Ignition System can be directly ordered through our website and shipping to HI will be included in the sale price. Your kit will ship out to you next week.

Charles you are a man amongst men and, once I have worked out to use my OBDwiz software, I will get compression test etc and then probably jump for the coils :-0
Life complicated here too - not in a shipping way though. More schools, where to live and who to live with.
