LS-2 Vs. BHR Coil upgrade
 

I am looking to upgrade my coils and plugs and wires. Know I have heard that BHR ignition systems are good. But Ebay is selling An LS-2 upgrade for less. My question which is the better upgrade r shoude I just save uo for the ideka coils?

The coil kit on ebay is from Raceroots which is a vender on this site.They have good products and ship fast.I'm not sure if there's much difference between raceroots and BHR's coil systems.I have BHR's and car runs great.I think the price difference is 50.00.They both use LS2 coils.I'm not sure if there's much difference.I choose BHR because if you are going to spend $500 dollars.You should go with the one everyone's using and say's is the best.Either one is better than the oem stock coils.

BHR use the D585, which has heat sink on the coil for better cooling, not LS2.
You'll need AP tune for better performance, but not require.

Yeah I think the BHR coils are yukon truck coils and Raceroots said the LS2 are corvette coils.Is that right?

well I have a 06 base model. and I think the the corvette coils would perform better than a truck coil would they not. What kind of tuning are we talking about?

A lot of people like to assume that.

I would personally go with the BHR kit.

Why is this in General Discussion rather than Aftermarket Performance with all the other similar ignition threads on the exact same subject?

Are there any OTHER options to better coils ?

Okada Projects sells a plasma coil, but it s $800 just for the coils. I went with the race roots kit and it has made my 04 into another car, much better, I would definitely recommend it.

Looks like he re-started the same topic there...so people do pay attention. Do your powers as DIY Sheriff give you the ability to transplant/merge this thread?

BTW - good job on the DIY cleanup. Even though I was one of the dorks to participate in threads there and razzed you on your griping, it was definitely needed and is much appreciated.

Yeah well when your RR copy cat kit takes a shit you will see why you should have spent a little more and gone with the BHR kit. But you probably ordered without even checking out Raceroots.

Funny how all my comments correcting the misleading description of the RR coils in the RR vendor forum are now gone. Have fun with your "ZO6" coils :rolleyes:

Hey I wanted to appologize for putting it up there twice I could not find the fist one I posted. But I think I have a pretty good handle on hoe to work the site I will not do that again.

There wasn't anything of significance in the other thread, so I removed it. And, moved this one to this forum.

BHR then for Aftermarket Coils should be a no brainer.. My next performance upgrade :)... Say, how can you tell the difference between OEM coils and BHR's or any other aftermarket ones? Cuss my motor came with red MSD spark plugs and that's what comes with BHR's kit so I am unsure if I got the better coils in there already..

The bhr coils have a heat sink on the bottom of them. I don't know what the bottoms of the RR kit looks like. The stock coils have no heatsink.

it is well known in the modified engine world that the "yukon" ( BHR's) coil is the most powerful ignition coil that is mass produced for an american car. People have used these coils on engine builds that go well over 1000hp. The heat sink on the coil is especially helpful for us also.
The beauty of the BHR kit is you dont have to worry about proper connectors ( and that means a LOT), building your on wires which a lot of people really dont know how to do properly, or getting a proper p&p harness.
Never buy an ignition coil off ebay--you dont know what you are getting. Been there, done that ( not this engine)
Sure there are other coil packs available, multiple ones in fact but I would like to offer a little advice from a guy that has made a lot of mistakes with his engines over the past 8 yrs. If you want upgraded coils the BHR kit is the best kit out there.

The Heat sink with the little metal arm on it doesn't come on stock coils then? I believe I have BHR coils already...:wavey:

the Race Roots coils do not have a heat sink on them. I purchased from them on eBay, they were pleasant to deal with. I have been purchasing from eBay for nearly 15 years now, there are good and bad experiences to be had and good and bad e-tailors on the site. Race Roots had shipped my package with a defective wire, and were quick to ship a replacement. I don't know the history about the product, but if BHR found that there was a need for an upgraded ignition system, good for them. If someone comes on the scene with a different product (which this appears to be) I think calling it a rip-off product is a bit harsh. As I stated, I have seen dramatic improvement over my admittedly over-the-hill OEM ignition system. The car fires up quickly and smoothly, I have seen a dramatic improvement on my gas mileage, and as long as this system lasts me as long as the OEM kit would, I am very pleased with my purchase.

^comparing your RR ignition kit to your worn out old ones is useless. Of course you had an improvement in start up and mileage!

ZoomZoom has had the RR coils for a while and has had no issues with them. I was looking at his coil setup the other day. I believe he has had them before RR actually released them for sale on their web site.

I personally have the BHR coils, and I wonder why I never bought them sooner. I wasn't having ignition issues at the time and I still noticed a huge improvment over the stock coils.

What is the life expectancy of the BHR coils? The stock coils last around 40K from what I have heard, should you expect to get more miles with the BHR coils or similar?
