Low cost option for racing harnesses?

Hey, guys. I'll admit that I haven't done much research on the topic myself, as I'm looking for suggestions first. I will be doing track schools with my RX-8 and would like to have a set of harnesses in the car. I would like to have belts that buckle in, so that I can quickly remove them if someone needs to sit in back. I will probably use them most of the time on the street. Do they make ones that buckle the top straps to the child seat harnesses in the back seat? There's the anchor point just behind the rear headrest, and the two behind each lower seat cusion and seat back. It would seem like it would be easy to clip one into the anchor point above the rear headrests, and the lower belts could bolt down to the floor.
I checked out Schroth first, as I'm familiar with them from BMWs, but I don't know who else is making good belts for these cars. I want 4-point harnesses (I would consider 5-point) with a quick-release buckle (not the old-school seat belt buckles!). I think I'd want 3" wide straps, but maybe 2.5" would do. I really don't know about that. I'd like to have an option for them to be red, if possible, and as inexpensive as possible while meeting most of my criteria.

Please give me suggestions and pics if you've got 'em! Thanks!! :D

if you are looking for something inexpensive that works well try the cg-lock. I just bought one and it works great, keeps your *** glued to the seat no matter what!!! You can find it in some sites for $32 shipped and it goes hooked up to your regular seatbelt. A lot of my friends use it for autocross and streetracing. Let me know if you need me to post some pics.

I've tried the CG Lock and don't like it. I much prefer to back the seat up, snap-lock the belt, and then pull the seat forward until it's rather difficult to breathe. Then I have the shoulder belt keeping my torso in place, as well as the lap belt keeping my butt in place. I'm looking to go to 4 or 5 point harnesses.

I've seen Sedan-sized race cars with VERY long shoulder straps; mounted to the rear deck. It could be as simple as creating a mounting point, then running the belts over the rear seats.

Takatas will mount to the rear LATCH normally used for baby seats on the rear deck... and guess what. The angle is just about perfect. Not exactly cheap though, but I can put them in whenever I don't have any passengers in the rear.

If its not SFI or FIA certified, consider it a deadly addition to your car should you be unfortunate enough to crash your car..or be crashed (into).

There's a reason we send a few unfortunate people home every track weekend becaue they removed the OEM belts for flashy stuff.

Flashy stuff can kill you pretty easily..or if youre lucky, just compress your spine leaving you an invalid.

Not trying to be a mother to y'all, just adding a voice of reason with the experience behind it...

4/5 point harnesses are only recommended for vehicles fitted with at least a rollbar, preferably a roll cage, they present a safety hazard in a rollover accident without additional roof crush protection

you would get more answers posting this in the Competition area

Your OEM belts are FAR safer than any "low cost option." Cheap 4-point belts are okay for autocross, but if you're hitting the track, do it right.

Paul:

Id say for the _street_ dont do it wrong..not just the track.

At the track, you have at most..35 people, all going the -same- direction, nobody playing with the radio, everyone aware of where they are, and what they are doing.

You'll kill yourself in cheap *** belts (not certified or improperly installed) WAY faster on the street than at the track. Ive seen those wrecks on the fire crew before..its not pretty to see what cheap belts to do your chest and spine..or what a "street" cage does when it snaps and folds in on you in a minor rollover.

Those pillar mounted fire bottles make great decapitators as well as they rocket thru the cabin in a collision too.
