K&N typhoon V.2

Hey guys, I finished installing some stuff on my car

I want to share an opinion on the K&N typhoon v.2
it sucks a big black D... don't get it for your car, DON'T DO IT! DON'T DO IT
DON'T DO IT,DON'T DO IT,DON'T DO IT,DON'T DO IT,DON'T DO IT,DON'T DO IT

I had to mod the god damn **** out of it JUST to make it as good as my stock, which included custom piping to get the bitch to the front of the air duct and ACTUALLY SUCK IN AIR!!! btw VFAD and Typhoon hates each other, so I had to remove the vfad, now I need to buy a damn RB duct, walla another 100 somethin

wait wait, thats not it!! ITS FREAKING GOD DAMN HOT!!!! HOT HOT HOT!! I had to put like 10 LAYERS OF ALUMINUM FOIL on EVERYTHING from the tip of the intake through all of the piping, and everything left and right of the place where the stock box once lay.............

to sum it up, I was a retard for buying this ****, DON"T DO IT!!!!

unless you enjoy modding ****, then its ok

it took me 40 minutes to remove the stock box install it without removing the VFAD... haven't had a problem since, just cleaned the filter a few times. Maybe there's something about automatics that makes this harder which I doubt but I've never looked under the hood of an auto RX-8... I haven't needed to 'mod' anything and my car has been running just fine for over 7k miles with it installed... don't blame the product if you aren't 100% proffecient on install no offense.

uhm? ur missing da point, it took me very much less to get the stock airbox(which I am very proficient in removing thanks to DIY) I'm not saying its hard to install, the design is just a tad bit.......stupid, why can't they make the filter a bit longer and ofset it to the right a bit more? who knows!!!

I can't speak for other K&N Typhoon 2 system but I know I have been dissapointed with it's performance.

By actually doing some data logging, I noticed that the MAF was recording some seriously high intake temperatures at lower speeds but still high despite high cruising speeds. At idle my IAT was well above 150 degrees and only fell to 120 degrees during 70 mph cruising.

Conditions were nightime driving, 103 degrees ambient temperature and probably in the neighborhood of 40% humidity.

Clearly the intake is sucking hot air off of the engine. Other RX8 owners here in Phoenix with CAI designs only experience intake temps slightly above ambient.

I'm thinking of going back to a stock airbox and doing a drop in.

that delta in temps is pretty good..

i get about 10 to 15deg above ambient with the revi and duct at a 70mph cruise...

after a heat soak.

Oh I agree, the delta is fantastic! No doubt the reason is due to having taken out the sock and removing all the restriction material...nearly a straight shot into the engine bay.

I'm starting to think one of the better setups is a stock intake with the Revi duct.
I'm looking forward to fall/winter here in AZ...the car runs like a champ then!

No problems here

Had my K&N Typhoon v2 on my '06 RX8 6MT for about a month now. Probably drove already around 1300 miles with that intake. Didn't notice any "major" improvements in performance compared to the stock intake - maybe except a little bit better throttle response and "a very slight" MPG increase. But I also didn't notice any problems with my RX8. Still runs the same as when I had the stock intake. No problems in the temp or power loss areas. I'm probably just lucky . The very first thing I noticed though when I installed my K&N kit was that my Mazdaspeed dual exhaust actually "growls a bit louder." But I do have my stock intake in storage - just in case.

no probs here, i had it on for over 12k miles now, cleaned it once and still love it! and here in vegas we been reaching over triple digits in temp everyday no probs with heat soak or over heating.and i did notice a good amount of a power increase.

I dont have a problem with heat. my intake temp is just a bit higher than stock.

The *open* design is to get maximum air flow. K&N knows how to make intake better than any of us.

Performance , maybe couple of hp increased. nothing major. just like most intake for the 8. But K&N Version 2 has the highest top end.

I like Version 2.

+1 nycgps

I have it with the RB air duct. In stop & go traffic under 20mph i am sure you get some heat soak on a 90F day. My car does feel sluggish around town. But when the traffic clears and you get some cooler air in then things open up all the way to 9k!

Hmm, there was a couple of over 90 and 100 days. but I never had any *sluggish* feel.

I might have a superduper Renesis !

been saying that for ages - stock intake , k&n drop in , RB duct , remove both mesh screens .
I'd bet its as good as the revi ......

I basically foiled the entire v.2, now it actually runs cool and I get a bit of kick at the slower rpms

although, seriously, not worth the 200 bucks

Then in your opinion what worth 200 bucks ?

You obviously have no idea how the system actually works. K&N version 2 works fine with VFAD. Its just that you *think* its not working.

K&N set it up this way to get maximum power.

And you have an AT ...
