Just thought I would clarify, otherwise noobs will run around saying they have factory Bilsteins. Just like when the rumor got started that Shinka's had Bilsteins and the factory brakes were designed by Brembo

Sorry, I'm taking terminology for granted.
OEM = Stock = Original Manufacturer
Aftermarket MIGHT be the same design and structure as the original, but still isn't really "OEM". For example, there are alternators out there for us by Beck and Arnley, Bosch, and Denso (and probably more than that). These aren't really OEM, even though they are designed the same and will fit.
Then again, Aftermarket MIGHT still be actually OEM. Car manufacturers rarely build components themselves. They outsource the specific components to individual manufacturing companies. For example for those alternators, I think Denso makes the alternators that get installed at the factor (unsure). Other examples are:
- Most of our electronics in the car are made by Mitsubishi's electronics division
- Our shocks are made by Bilstein or Tokico (depends on your car's trim/package/year)
- Our clutch is made by Exedy
- Our plugs and wires are made by NGK
Therefore it is possible to get "OEM" or "stock" parts that are from an aftermarket non-dealer source. Nearly every part in the car is like this.
You can buy the "OEM" filter at most auto parts stores and consider it actually OEM.
While race engines and street engines ARE entirely different to deal with, sand/debris ingestion isn't one of the areas that it's different. Ingesting debris will destroy street/daily driven RX-8s just as fast as race engines.
I simply don't understand why anyone would be willing to take even the slightest risk here. 1hp is the ONLY advantage, and isn't even something anyone can feel.

I have a 06 Shinka and there is a label on the shock that says Bilstein. I am the second owner and the original owner might have installed them.

Wrong. I have pulled the suspension off of two Shinka's (shinkamami and Cornholio135) and they both had Tokico's. I have also pulled the suspension off of a 40th and a couple of R3's and they definitley have normal Bilstein HD's.

Actually three Shinka's, I forgot about the the white one that we put S techs on.

Guys,
Some time back ( 6-7 years) there was a post with pics showing the stock air box with 2-air directors held in by screws. Remove these directors which restrict air flow. Behind these are two round screens. I believe it was proven each screen removed added 3+ hp. It was thought this was all done for emissions among other unknown items.
It was recommended to leave one screen in. Add a K&N filter and an increase of 4-5 hp. The most noticable item was hair trigger response from accelerator to rear wheels!
Did this back years ago still running strong!

"Proven" is the incorrect word there. Try "assumed".
Those screens are needed for stable MAF flow. Sure you might pick up a tiny bit of peak power, but you are leaving your whole curve open to instability. Nearly every intake that shows a power loss is doing so because they can't keep the airflow straight and smooth across the MAF.

EDIT: REMEMBER TO RESET YOUR ECU! Some people claim that the idle somehow dropped or is rough. It will go away after about a hundred miles because the ECU needs to adjust to it. If you don't want to drive around like that for a hundred miles, do the ECU reset. This is recommended if you remove both the screens (what most people do).

Well, the first step is to pull up the airbox (does not have to be detached from all the intake hoses, clamps, and wires).

You don't really gain any by removing the baffles and 1 of the 2 MAF screens. Maybe 2 peak HP which translates to nothing in the real world.
