The folks at Good-Win Racing gave me the best advice I've seen. If you're under 30, go for the "filter & tube" MazdaSpeed or AEM Cold Air intake. If you're older than 30 go for the Racing Beat. There's definitely a sound intensity (dB) consideration between the two.

btw: you can also do what I did; mate the RB Ram Air Duct ('cold air access') to the stock air filter enclosure. Better outside air access with the stock filter relative quiet.

Edit: Mazda pretty much maxed out the performance on the stock '8 NA design. A MS/3rd party CAI and/or exhaust won't get you much Hp gain. It's/they're mostly for the differing sound(s).

AEM ftw. You're not going to get much power from an intake anyway so you might as well go for the bling.

I say MS/ AEM or the Racing BEat.

If you are going with an intake at least make it a cold air one!

Had a racingbeat with duct. No real gain, but seemed to block the lower grill portion from cooling the radiator(bothered me). Sold it and just got the k&n t-foon. my but dyno likes it alot plus you can have the Woot!

btw:^ I dont idle much so the "Cold Air" is always flowing.

I had the K&n v2 (aka typhoon) before I bought my AEM and IMO the AEM is much better.

The K&N is a lot louder and vibrated my dash at WOT. Also when looking at my IAT using my AP it showed temps 30 degrees plus over AMB. I never had any problems with my K&N, but when I switched to the AEM I was much happier. IAT is never more than 15 to 20 degrees even when you are at a stand still and while you are driving they are almost the same as AMB.

To each his own though...

Have you considered PRM? It's a sick sounding intake that makes the same power. Best of all right now you can pick it up a fair bit cheaper than those other ones. Anyways just something to consider.

Let me know if you have questions.

no, rain should not be a problem, just don't go looking for puddles more than a foot deep and you should be fine

I also say AEM/MS but to me it's a waste of money since u see no gains (1 or 2 HP if any) for 300 bucks or more...do the stock airbox mod and spend the 300 on something else
