well this may be dumb so i apologize ahead of time but i got thinking. What if you replaced the stock velocity funnel in the air box with a little bit bigger one ? Might take some modification but it may be doable to help the stock airbox flow with a panel k & n.

this one is a 3" opening and i haven't taken measurements yet. For 15 bucks i may by one and try to make something work....

Stock air box flows just fine. Most aftermarket intakes are a waste of money with no real power gains and the race teams use paper filters and not K&N's so what does that tell you? Just some perspective

yeah i understand what you mean. It just looks weird with a huge airbox and this small funnel in the middle. Just seems like it might flow a little better if that funnel was widened to cover more surface area. Its just a thought but maybe it won't make any differences at all.

and if there is some confusion, i mean replacing this funnel

Yeah that funnel in the factory box is pretty functional and you need that screen to keep airflow stable across the MAF sensor. Have you looked at the entire intake system including the VFAD assembly?

yeah i have been looking at different intake systems and have looked at the stock one also. I have been doing alot of reading in different threads too. have no plans on ditching the stock airbox at all. I was thinking on eventually buying the REVi ram air duct or possibly just making my own for 1/8th the price.

Im a former 89 mazda mx6 gt owner. I miss boost AND boat loads of torque that was put out . My mx6 had roughly (going by other members numbers with similar mods) 185 hp and 240 ft/lbs torque at 15psi (high 13 sec 1/4) . And only weighed in at 2600 lbs. Crazy fast for an 800 dollar car with almost no money put in it. Im all for trying new things and new ideas.
