did you dyno it back to back? Because a dyno isn't an absolute. You can easily get +/- 5 hp with no changes to your car due to temperatures alone (e.g; dyno at 9am vs 5pm)

you guys seriously need to stop whining. We all know that no matter what mid pipe you get it will only yield said amount. Again for the 3rd time, the reason for the high cost is the materials used to make this part. I came on this thread to help out leon, not to hear you guys bitch and whine about the price. No matter what you guys say it will not effect sales in Asia. This along with other mid pipes for other applications sell extremely well in Asia, hence JDM part only (special order). Another reason why HKS is the #1 aftermarket parts manufacturer in Japan. HKS tested out their own catless mid pipe and this one and it actually dyno'd the same.

Brain damage, are you still butt hurt from the last time I pwned you? Remember how you thought all RX8's dyno the same? Yea? ring a bell? LOL

if you put your chrome rims and gold paint back on along with your knock off body kit i'm sure you will achieve 240 whp...lol

hahahaha^ HKS is quality, I dont care what anyone else says. Its just that much better. If I had enough money to buy an RP cat, I wouldnt. I would save up for the HKS because I know that it would be the best quality, without a doubt.

not to mention rp supercats tend to burn out after a while and you would need an extra hanger welded on to complete the installation.

sigh
all i wanted was some feedback from people about this extremely awesome piece
and so many of you guys are talking to me about the price, what about the quality of it?
especially for those who are comparing it to other pipes.
it's still tempting to get this.
and most importantly, i want this piece for its sound/quality/name (HKS :]) (its very deep, compared to other pipes out there)

I had an RP Supercat before and have seen the HKS Metal Catalyzer. The difference in fit and finish is like night and day! As seen in XDEEDUBBX’s pictures, the quality is obvious and the materials used (polished SUS304, CNC flanges etc.) are top notch. As for fitment, the HKS fits like factory, doesn’t require welding an additional hanger, includes a resonator, all necessary hardware and doesn’t push the exhaust out an extra10-15mm like the RP. I personally saw a back to back dyno test on an EVO (HKS Metal Catalyzer vs Cat-delete straight pipe) and there was no difference in power. The cost is high, however if compared to other top JDM manufactures it’s right on par. RE Amemija, & R Magic are priced similar. Whether or not the differences are worth the added cost should be up to the end user.

Japanparts replies

I know we've quoted you before; your in CA, right?

Like all Parts on our site, you're eligible for a Discount off our Japanparts website pricing, as you've posted earlier that you were *tempted* to buy this Part from us, let me tempt you further with the Math:

281-033-007 METAL CATALYZER
1 JP ¥125,800.00 US $1,129.87
Parts Total JP ¥125,800.00 US $1,129.87

LESS 12.5% RX8 Club discount:
US$988.64
Your freight is sent Fully Insured.
To Door: JP ¥17,500.00 US $157.18

988.64 + 157.18 = US$1,145.82

While we have shipments leaving Tokyo for Long Beach, CA, every 10-15 days, it's actually cheaper ( and quicker ) to Airfreight this part to your Door than to Seafreight this

HKS tend to make these to Order; so expect 6-8 weeks delivery for this Part

I'll PM you to followup**

Thanks for your interest!!

Best

affirmative...over the past few months I've gotten so bored of the car. Almost traded it in twice, after installing it, I fell in love with it all over again. =)

A couple things to correct you on...
-Polished = quality?
-the rp has a hanger now
-an Evo will dyno differently than an 8 every day of the week.

You're still paying a gigantic markup for the name. It's a fine looking piece, just way overpriced.

HKS is a big name because of quality, but for 1200 it should be titanium. I would go with R-Magic, (also a little cheaper), it is a great brand and dedicated to rotaries, their modded RX8 is a killer.

You get what you pay for, this is the rule.

I have one of the first 5 supercats made. 50,000+ miles later, and several thousand track miles at extended 6K+ rpms and my supercat is perfectly fine.

I am not arguing about the quality of it Deedub, I am sure they do a better job of their midpipe than they do with their retarded intake (which I have and now took off). however, do you seriously it is worth 1200$? that is all I am trying to get here. I don't understand why you would so much insist on buying something so insanely expensive for a midpipe!
