Before i get the usual 'search' comments, i'd like to say i have done reasonable reasrch on both exhausts, but sadly these are two of the rarer exhausts out there so information is limited, like 'ive got a hks legamax and its great' doesnt quite do it lol

So I would like to ask if theres anyone who thinks one may be better than the other and people with personal experiance with either of these would be great.

Obviously the Tanabe is titanium therefore is lighter but beyond that I dont know much. Also i have a RP Supercat, which i have never heard bolted to a legamax.

I have the HKS legamax. It was my second option because at that time, the Ultra Medallion was not out in the market yet. It's been 3 years and I still have no problem with the HKS. I had a Tanabe exhaust on my last car and I loved it. But in my opinion, BOTH are great. I'd go with the Tanabe because the Ultra looks intimidating and it has titanium tips!!! Not too sure about HP gains though.

it's pretty much like which sound u'd like better... as far as how easy it was to install, HKS brings really good quality products, they fit right in, install is pretty easy and can be done by 1 man in less than half hour

 

what are the main differences between the two in terms of sound. im aware that a supercat will make both louder than with a stock cat. ive seen a few people that wrote the tanabe with a midpipe was probably the best sound theyve heard from an 8.

ive heard some videos of legamaxs saying they have a supercat fitted and it sounds quieter than a video ive seen of a legamax with stock cat. im finding it hard to distinguish sounds between different cameras/distances etc, some sound gd some dont yet its the same exhaust

 

I have heard the Legamax in Person and it does sound good, I think for the Legamax Cost I would rather get the Ultra Medallion, but that is Just me.

I originally wanted the Ultra Medallion years ago, but cost was a factor for me, (student back then).

I have heard the same thing about the Ultra Medallion being one of the best but it is not very popular of the forums due to the cost associated. The weight alone makes me want to buy it now.

Ive heard (in person) a HKS Legamax with a Single Resonated Race Pipe and is Mildly loud on open throttle and super quiet when idle or cruising.

I also heard the Ultra Medallion with super cat and its a bit louder but nicer sound! Sounds like the real exhaust sound of a rotary engine.

Its up to you... I would go with the Ultra Medallion: yesnod:

I have the Tanabe hyper medallion....only other mod i have on my car is a k&n... i would say this exhaust is PERFECT for the street...its quiet when you cruise and when on your on the freeway but once you gun it it sounds beautiful...im actually kinda missing some noise so Im waiting for either the RB midpipe or the BHR midpipe :D

If you want something really quiet that look GREAT id suggest going with the greddy sp elite with the titanium burnt tip

 

i wasnt looking for really quiet, just didnt want an obscenely loud exhaust either lol
i like to let people know when i leave and arrive, plus ive got a neighbour who i love to **** off lol

Yup Ultra Medallion and Super Hyper Spec have both been discontinued.

 

will be picking up my legamax thursday/friday, install saturday if i can hold the temptation to do it sooner lol

yeah i would have chosen the Tanabe but nothing u could do except wait for used like said above...but i'm sure u will like the HKS they make good quality products

 

i would imagine many sellers on here wouldnt fancy shipping to the UK, and ive never heard of one in the UK anyways.

i nearly ordered the blitz realise tt-r purely because it seems that no-one else has ever bought one on this forum. which i find quite weird because i thought blitz was one of the best tuning companies out theres for jap cars up there with hks. but it cost a tiny bit more and never heard one. maybe i should of been a guinea pig! lol

I have the HKS Legamax and love it. I hang with a lot of Rx8 owners with different exhaust and i really perfer the sound of the HKS. I always get the greats compliment on how my car sounds; from all type of car owners.

 

got my hks earlier this evening, few hours went by and i couldn't wait any longer lol so out came the ramps and tools!

will be posting pics and vids soon, but ive been up since 5am lol so probably weekend.
i think it sounds pretty awesome, from behind at idle it sounds like a purring tiger lol

btw nyc your car is a beaut, i love the dark roof touch on lighter coloured cars

I can't find them =[ anyone have pictures on their car? I would like to see how they look like...
