Hks F-con Vpro
Hey Guys,
There are many different levels of the HKS F-CON... the F-CON SZ and F-CON S are essentially piggy back units that controls fuel and ignition.
The HKS F-CON PRO is a standalone engine management system that is connected like a piggyback. The F-CON PRO has many unique capabilities that I believe make a much better option than using an AEM EMS or APEXI FC or other standalones of the sort. It does not control things such as A/C and such as Mazdamaniac pointed out, that is left to the OEM PCU, but it does far and beyond what the EMANAGE or anything else on the market for RX8 can do in every respect.
There is definitely a lack of knowledge of the product simply b/c of that fact that HKS does not release any software to the public for people to tune the unit. You must be a certified HKS pro dealer to have and use the software to tune the unit. There is only about a dozen different places in North America at this time right now that are trained to be Pro dealers.
I have already ordered the harness and unit for the car right now as the tuner for my car is a pro dealer. He has contacted HKS USA and HKS JAPAN and it will be the first V-PRO install for the RX8 in North America. Should be a fun project. I will be starting the install in two weeks or the beginning of July depending on the work schedule. I'll let you guys know as it progresses..

That's awesome.... congrats! The harness was only just recently made avaliable. I have the main unit already as well.. The harness I am getting is supposedly still the first in North America. Whose doing your install?
Good Luck with all the turbo kit stuff. You should easily find another vendor who has it in stock..Make sure you pick up all the extra stuff you need since your going F-CON PRO now........

I have a thread regarding the mods surrounding the turbo and Vpro. I'm reworking all the engine internals - port/polish, FD internals swap, upgraded seals, lower compression and retiming on the engine to ensure that I can use the most out of the greddy turbo since the tune and boost level is so minimal.
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=50110
I'm planning on targeting 350-400+ at the wheels. I'm only limited by the max output of the greddy turbo, which I was told could only handle 450whp MAX / 350-400whp reliable.
My harness is in america too at Blast Racing.

I think you linked the wrong thread.
If your doing so much work........i don't think the greddy turbo is going to cut it for you.. I wouldn't even spend the money. Get something custom made and with a ball bearing turbo..
My opinion of course.

well, I'm not looking for 500+ now since that'd require more upgrades done. For now, I'm just t rying to get the motor reliable for a 400whp car.

Seeing as how not only is the port design totally different, but the number, placement, material and design of the seals are different too. THe Renesis' rotor is lighter too (I believe). These are all things that have been mentioned over time or said directly by rotarygod.
Are you still sure you want these guys working on your car?

these guys on a phone call already discussed this topic. Blast just mentioned tat this portion of their build is "custom" to them and that I shouldn't share extra info on that. You should give them a call and ask them yourselves at Blast or do a search on Tadatoshi Wakita and Naoto Negishi on google. I believe, both in Japan and US, these guys have proven themselves.

13B-REW swap is doable and happened in Japan. Didn't JIC car want to do it and go to JGTC?
Good luck to you... it will be a heck of a car with the real turbo and the chassis of the SE3P

Blast is definitely a reputable tuner.......
I've met John from JIC. He did the 13B swap but had to cut into the firewall. It looked impressive and he did it himself.

Nah... I wasn't refering to a full MSP - REW swap... I know that's possible. Acosta dropped a 20B in their car. Maybe I read it wrong, but what alex wrote gave me the impression that they were going to change the MSP internals with those from the REW... i.e. rotors...

I dunno... ask rotarygod about that.
Here's one simple one off the top of my head...
THe seals from the Renesis are BETTER than those in the REW. They are made of stronger materials and the redesigned stronger and to seal better.
Another...
The Renesis employs a new "blow-by cut off" seal. I believe it had to do with the change to side port exhaust.
A question...
THe F-Con V-PRo can control "drive-by-wire" throttles, right? HOw about DCS/TCS? Security system? If you are leaving the stock ECU connected for those functions... it's not going to throw a CEL?

Japan8 -
The ECU question was my #1 problem in the beginning. The guys at Blast have a plan to keep everything funcitonal while having the FCon installed. I'm not sure if this is something they wanted me to share but they do have this taken care of.
As far as seals, these guys are professional Drag racers and build cars/motors for drag that doesn't blow up. They said that what I'm doing was done in Japan, it was mentioned in Option Magazine.
Like I said, call Blast engineering, talk to these guys and its easier for them to give info on their project, I'm merely proxying.

alex...
Wasn't trying to flame you or call BS. Things just didn't seem to add up... as far as the ECU goes, I imagine they can work out something... I'd like to know how they're doing it. As far as the rotors go... I honestly can't think of any way that that engineering feat is possible without somehow modding the REW rotors... if that is even possible.

figures...the only two dealers close to me are in CT and MD. The dealer in CT has zero experience with rotary tuning and doesn't really want to touch the car. The dealer in MD is Altered Atmosphere and I'm not so sure I want to go with them.... Seems Mazdamaniac and Philo played around there with some difficulties....
DAMN IT!
