So wait, I paid money for the good AC Delco coils and the cheap mercury ebay coils are technically better? Hm and I mad if this is true. How many miles do you have on your coils Team?

The discussion is D585 truck/Yukon coils, not Mercury/IGN-1A coils

I've been using a set of D585 'blem' coils without issue the last three or four years. My new build has the IGN-1A coils.

Oh okay okay. I have the same, blemished ac delco coils. Running fine so far. these limiters cannot be fixed by a cobb?

That's not how they work, so no. Like I said, on a rotary you probably won't run into the auto discharge feature of a coil designed for piston engines.

For most D585 variants there is very little gain from going above a 5.5ms dwell (recommended dwell for most variants), which is very near the physical dwell limit of a rotary at 10k rpm (~6ms).

the way to address it is to lower your dwell settings by approx. 1/2mS from 12V up if you want to be safe

, supposedly Pantera EFI had some special D585 coils built with the limiter removed. I'd rather just use the IGN-1A myself ... just the same I would not recommend going anywhere near 6 mS @ 12+ V without first proving it will not auto-limit

Anyone in possession of a coil can either test it or have tests run if you don't have the equipment. Once you have a particular coil in hand there's no secret about what it will or won't do wrt dwell vs output. This erases all doubt about who claims what vs reality. Ideally you will test several of the same to get a general confirmation and hopefully avoid an oddball.
