Headers on an RX8

I want to know if putting a header on an 8 is worth it. How much power and do you feel the difference. Is it too loud? Anyone with their opinions feel free to answer this thread please.

Thanks

If you do a search for headers, you'll find some fairly old threads talking about the theory behind headers on a Renesis. Eventually you'll come to the conclusion that no one currently makes any that are worth it, but it might be possible to design one that works. Whether it fits under the hood is another matter. It's alot of good reading, I'd recommend it.

I've read most of those threads. I want to know from people that have had them on their car and drove with them on.

I think Racing Beat has some in the works, should be out sometime this year. Considering the price of the ones available now, I would wait.

You could always go with the OBX headers that available on Ebay, but I believe someone on here actually lost HP when he installed them.

Just wait on the Racing Beat headers.

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-aftermarket-performance-modifications-23/obx-rx8-header-73445/ is the best thread on the subject.
The person in that thread didn't gain any power. Since headers provide only noise very few people have installed them. The labor involved for zero gains just doesn't make it worthwhile. It's hard to believe but Mazda puts good Exhaust systems on their cars.

If you want a more HP from an exhaust mod...then you should go with a hi-flow cat.

Or just eliminate the cat altogether.

I have changed the headers in my 8 some time now and after installing free flow cat and exhaust. About the noise, the header won't increase the level of the noise. It will change it to a more mechanical sound. The sound changes dramatically with cat and catback. As for power I saw a peak 12hp and on driveabilty, the car pulls strong until the redline and from 2000 rpm you have strong pull. All in all, a good mod with all the rest.

The truth is that power is to be found in headers, but there are some design parameters that are important. I posted results on this in the engine dyno testing thread https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-major-horsepower-upgrades-93/engine-dyno-testing-renesis-88067/. Some questions were raised about the presence/non-presence of the cat, and only further testing will be conclusive. However, we found 14 horsepower at the flywheel.

I am planning on bringing these headers to market. They will be similar to the system we fitted to Wildcard's car. I posted pics on the S/C thread. Mandrel bent stainless steel. Usual high quality you have come to expect from the Hymee Enhanced (R) products.

Cheers,
Hymee.
