Hi,

I seem to be getting more backfire than usual, anyone know possible reasons for this? The only mod I changed just before the more frequent backfires are my autoexe spark plug wires. My friend told me that more backfire could be due to the spark plugs getting dirty or old (not relevant to the plug wires). Could this be a possible reason? And how do you guys reach to check the spark plugs? It seems rather hard to reach.

Do you have a hi-flow cat or test pipe? If the ambient temp changes, you can get more backfire due to more heat in the exhaust.

I dont have any midpipe or high flow cat.
the only change I did just before more backfire was the plug wires.
I also notice Im getting not as good gas mileage, could that also be a hint of failing spark plugs?

I'm backfiring quite a bit now also. My 8 is at 31K miles (daaaaang!!!!) and I KNOW I'm about to get some more spark plugs (the plugs were my first guess also). Don't know if that will fix my problem, but I'll definitely find out soon. As far as mods go, all I have is a Borla cat back. I need an intake.

Your AutoExe wires may be faulty, or simply not up to task. If this is so, you're not getting even as much combustion as before and then the backfiring could occurr. I'd suggest putting the stock wires back in if you have them and seeing if there's a difference.

I would like to inspect the spark plugs, but its kind of hard to reach, I guess need to jack up the car or something? Man, I hope they make some aftermarket soon, cuz OEM costs $120+..

A true back-fire is unburned exhaust gases igniting in the headers or exhaust piping. If you're spark plugs or plug wires are damaged, you'll get incomplete combustion, resulting in back fire. My thought is that if its the plugs or the wires, you'll get the backfire under most conditions. However, if you're only getting it when you let off the throttle, it could be another problem.

I'd suggest changing the plug wires back first, and perhaps inspect the plugs while you're at it.

hmm. it only happens when I let off the throttle. anyhows, I will check the plugs first, if they look fine, then I will change it back to the OEMs and see.
