does your rx8 backfire?

I have a 2005 rx-8.. 700 miles now.. today i noticed that when my brother was revving the engine (at idle) around 3000 rpm, the car was backfiring.. it made that popping sound about 2-3 times everytime he revved it... a small cloud of black smoke can be seen near the exhaust tips... has anyone noticed this? is it a problem or what..? let me know please

mine never backfires. I got a 2005 Shinka built in 11/04 with 2250 miles to date. Even after I installed all my mods (check my signature) it still runs beautifully (knock on wood).

is it sorta a soft popping sound out of the exhaust or a true backfire/afterfire that's a loud bang? Make a big difference. The Rx-8 should backfire in stock form.

mine does the "burble" sound when it revs down from a high idle throttle but not an actual backfiring you'll hear from a badly tuned piston engine. If that's what you mean then it is normal. that's actually a trademark sound of the rotary kinda like the definitive sound of a Harley bike.

mine backfires all the time, i love it....of course with a completly stock car it isnt that loud, but if you have the windows down you can hear it poping.

careful about the reving though, i heard from a little birdie that if you rev the motor while sitting still your whole car could explode and launch your lifeless corpse into orbit....lol j/k

I've been trying to add the touch of flames coming out of the exhaust pipe along with the backfire. Cant do it! Driven hard up the mountain roads, and in pitch black, still no flames! Dang it...

no sh!+

as far as getting the flames, the only one that I have seen do it in person, was running no cat. It used to shoot flames, but he has the cat back on now that he has gone turbo.

I've got 2 foot flames and loud pops coming out of each pipe when I'm hard on it. Even in broad daylight. A couple days ago I romped it hard with a cop behind me and my wife was 2 cars back and said I had some nice looking flamage.
