does your rx8 backfire?

I was actually out in my 8 today heading to a meeting at work and
was sitting at the lights trying to demonstrate to my mate the popping
and crackle sound (sounds like a rice crispies advert, snap, crackle and pop!)
I was revving gently, and could get the pop noise and he could hear it with my window
down, but when my CAT went over a year ago the pop wasn't there. I do this now and again to ensure the noise is still there, I have a motoria cat back exhaust and it sounds great.
So yes get a stainless cat back exhaust and you'll enjoy it even more, I have noticed that when I hammer the gas in 2nd and get above 4000rpm the engine feels like it bogs down until it gets to about 7000rpm and then springs back into life.
This started happening a few days after I got new coils, plugs and leads. All leads are tightly on, have ran the car on 95 octane mostly, now on 2nd tank of BP 97 octane. I have cleaned the MAF which improved things, but I am at a loss as to why the power goes down when climbing the revs until 7000rpm and its back to normal?
I have a CAT with only 10000 miles on it and it doesn't glow red, I have a K&N air box replacement filter, have reset the ecu etc.
I was worried about the CAT being clogged but no error codes coming up on scan gauge II.
The exhaust popped, crackled great after new coils and plugs etc, not just as good what could it be?
Cheers
